AICC course recording fail as complete

We are currently implementing Docebo and I am setting up some course shells with AICC content from an external provider.

The courses launch and run successfully, but I am having issues with what happens when people fail the course. If the user doesn’t achieve the pass mark, the course is still recording as complete in the LMS when you exit.

Has anyone come across this issue before?

In our previous LMS their was a field to manually set the pass mark, but I can’t seem to find the equivalent in Docebo.

Our workaround is having this logic built into the course itself. Docebo doesn’t really have fail logic unfortunately.

In the course, if there is a test and the user fails, we have the course start back to where we want it to and then they have the take the test again. They don’t leave the course until they pass.

Agreed. This sounds like an issue within the content itself in which the course is set to mark complete if the user, for example, views all of the content instead of using a passing score on the assessment as a completion marker. Docebo doesn’t have a failed status (which we’re all still hoping will change one day), BUT if the course is built correctly, the status should show as In Progress until the user passes the assessment. That’s how we have ours set up.

I ran into this with a couple of courses that I was creating, where completion of the storm was different from completion of the class taking the storm would actually get marked complete. Same issue or you were running into

Can you upload screenshots of the course setting pages specifically the pages that reflect completions? Also, do you have anything specifically marked as the end material in your training materials? I ran into a situation once where the squirm was not marked as the end material and something else buzz so when they downloaded the document as opposed to completing the score marked course is complete.

Some of this may be completely irrelevant to what you’re running into, and as others is said, it may be a storm base issue and not have anything to do with Docebo at all.

This is how the courses we have built in house are working - we set the pass mark in the course and it pulls through to the LMS. So if a user doesn’t pass they stay as in progress.

But in the AICC courses from the external provider it is showing the failed assessment and directing the learner to retake it. But if you exit the course at that point, Docebo is recording as complete. The LMS is registering the score correctly, but seeing it as a pass rather than a incomplete/fail.

I can’t change how the external course providers have built their courses sadly, so this is concerning.

@lsu - hey just adding to the story - I have been at this game a few years...and I personally would give pushback on your course providers about the inconsistency. My understanding is that an AICC server has some flexibility on the completion status that is sent back over.

Thank you all for your support, it seems to be the lack of a failure status in Docebo which is causing the issue.

It seems to be picking up that the user has completed the course, but not that they have failed the assessment. Unfortunately as the content is from a national provider we are unable to push back on how the completion status is sent, so we will have to start looking at workarounds.

As a new Docebo customer this is really disappointing, it isn’t going to give the end user the experience we were hoping for and significantly add to the admin burden.

Where we got to was on fail that an incomplete message should be sent along to the LMS we were using.

We were also working with a national publisher at the time (we had something like 400 courses in our catalogs from Elsevier) and was able to eventually connect with someone technical enough that was able to turn around and support us on the content side of things.

Good luck with this one….no new customer should feel like they are getting jacked up like this...bring it to your CSM to see if they can help you navigate it more.
