Adding Managers via .csv does not show "My Team"

Good day!

As a Super Admin I have successfully used a .csv tile to upload both managers and individual contributors.

When I look at a manager profile it shows 1) the manager “has director reports” is yes 2) the list of individual contributors reporting to that manager show up.

However, when I then take on the role of that user, their menu does not contain the “My Team” option.

NOTE:  when, as a Super Admin, I manually add a manager to the user list and manually add 1 individual contributor and then change to that manager’s profile, it does show me “My Team” under their menu.

Is there something else I need to do to have “My Team” show up for those managers?  Using the .csv for uploads is great and I would love to continue with that option.

Thank you!

Audrey

Hi - a common issue that we run into with something related to this is a chicken and the egg scenario when we use the automation app. Now I am not saying that this is what is happening for you, but I wanted to make sure you heard an order of operations approach is necessary from someone.

The mgr account needs to be in the system before they can be assigned as a mgr

With keeping that mind - you probably will want to do two loads (one load will load your mgrs and one your individual contributors). When we run into this common logistical issue - this happens as we have mgrs reach across unexpected sides of our organization that authenticate differently - there is an error file that will come back and tell you that the mgr is not available if you try to do it on a single pass.

Hi @audreyinboulder,

Has the My Teams page been added to the menu? If not, I think that does need to be added - and will appear for managers.  Also, in the Advanced settings, under ‘Teams and Managers’ have you turned on any of the settings?

Hope this helps!

@audreyinboulder - @dklinger and @slgoldstein - both have great points. As mentioned the surest way of doing it is add the managers in one upload and assign them in the next.

That said I have done it one where I put the managers at the top of the csv, and their direct reports down towards the bottom.

Wow!  Thank you all for your help.  A few responses:

  1. My Team shows up for managers manually added, so I am assuming that piece is ok.
  2. When I look at the managers uploaded through the csv, I do see all their direct reports listed.  It is just when I switch to their account, I don’t see My Team
  3. I can test adding another manager as suggested above.  If that works, what do I do with all the users I have already uploaded?  I wonder if I should try uploading them again now that the managers are there.

Let me run a test with a brand new manager, csv, and direct reports.  I’ll let you know how it goes!!

Hi @audreyinboulder - I would start with seeing what you have. In the user area, select all of the users, and then select all again to get all. Then the green Choose Action button > Export > Export as CSV.

Select “Include column names in the first row and then the information you need about your users. Include Direct Manager, and Manager permissions.

That will help you see who is properly provisioned. In the excel output you can sort by Direct Manager.

Then you can make what ever changes are needed and you have a CSV to upload.
