Hi, on some of my courses ive created (scorm) when it comes to the quiz section its starting to freeze and not allow users to continue. This has happened on various courses, not just one.

Why is this? How can I fix it?

Thanks

I don’t have an answer for you, but this sometimes happens to us on a specific set of older SCORM courses (created by a previous developer on our team) with a lot of custom code in it. I’ve worked a lot with Docebo’s help desk on the issue, and because it seems to happen randomly and there’s nothing obviously wrong in the SCORM code, we can’t seem to find a resolution other than it’s a “random browser issue”. Very frustrating. You may be in a different situation with your files, so I would reach out to the help desk and work with them on it.

Have you tested your scorm package elsewhere such as on Scorm Cloud to see if it runs properly there (you can get a free account for testing purposes)?

What tool are you using to build with and are you publishing it SCORM 1.2 or 2004? Maybe switch to the other version and try it? Also is it fairly random or can you identify a certain question type that is causing the freezing?

In Docebo, try changing from lightbox to fullscreen and seeing if that works (if that is the option you are using) as I have had issues with lightbox view before.

As a work around could you build the quiz in the Docebo quiz editor instead?

Its a scorm 1.2 file built on captivate, Ive built all courses on this, it literally just freezes just as the quiz is set to begin. Even if I log in at the user, it doesnt work for me either. But not all users.

I had uploaded the course again, and hidden the original and the same thing happened.

Which browser(s) are being used?

Perhaps there are trackers in the SCORM module? This may cause the web browser to block the tracking cookies.

Is this happening on desktops, smartphones, or both? We have seen issues with iPhones on a third-party licensed cloud-hosted SCORM module. Safari appears to block cross-site communication between Docebo and the SCORM cloud host.

Not sure if this will help because it may be a different issue, but I often have instances where my users (who primarily use Google Chrome) have a course that won’t load, and usually it’s a blocked cookies issue. If they have an icon with an eye that has a slash through it in their browser URL bar, they have cookies blocked. They have to click on it and enable the cookies, and then the Scorm works. Might not be your issue, but worth looking into!

Yes, clearing the history often is the starting point to fixing weird/random behaviour.

Check with your IT group - if they are managing Edge or Chrome browser settings, they should be able to whitelist your docebo domain name to disable the cross-site tracking and cookie blocking behaviors.

That step doesn’t help BYOD users, so it’s worth posting something within Docebo reminding users to disable these blockers.

I’ve been using an intro that lives in the CLOR. I included this introduction in courses that we know have problems. The introduction has a few reminders about watching any and all videos completely, tracking of elapsed time, and providing advance notice that there may be a quiz in the module. I’m going to add a piece about disabling these web blockers.

There could be multiple reasons why the quizzes on your SCORM courses are freezing and not allowing users to continue. Some common reasons are:

  1. Large media files: If your quiz contains large media files like videos, images or audio files, it can increase the load time of the quiz and make it freeze.

  2. Compatibility issues: Your SCORM courses may not be compatible with certain browsers or operating systems, which can cause the quiz to freeze.

  3. Corrupted files: The quiz may be freezing due to corrupted files or incorrect settings within the quiz.

To fix these issues, you can try the following solutions:

  1. Optimize media files: If the quiz contains large media files, you can optimize them to reduce their size and increase the load time.

  2. Test compatibility: Test your SCORM courses on different browsers and operating systems to ensure compatibility. You can also load your file on SCORM Cloud to test the output.

  3. Check quiz settings: Check the quiz settings to ensure that they are correct and there are no corrupted files.

  4. Update software: Ensure that your SCORM authoring tool are up-to-date and have the latest updates installed.

  5. Contact Support: If the above solutions do not work, you can contact the Adobe support for further assistance.

@DH34 - so a real challenge (with I dare to say any SCORM course) is what should be the correct behavior when a person stops in the middle of a quiz and attempts to pick it back up on the other side?

Scoring of quizzes is configured SCO by SCO and it isnt a solid universal approach. In my youth of working with SCOs we found that if we encouraged people to complete them in a single sitting? We had the least amount of calls come through.

But when we are forced down the path of enforcing quiz scores to drive completion? Then I would highly recommend communicating that a person complete the quiz in a single sitting.

Also @DH34 - what platform are you using - sorry - I just read the top - Adobe Captivate and SCORM 1.2.

So Captivate does have a nuance to it as well as other SCORM 1.2 courses because of how it will handle the submission of details. The CMI interaction on submit can get painfully long and in certain cases it actually can cause it to stall and fail.

In Captivate? I believe you can force your SCO to report on every interaction. That and working in SCORM 2004 has helped me in the past.

One other piece to keep in mind? If you are overwriting your SCOs to version up those quizzes? Well….right there is your root cause - quiz questions and interaction changes are considered structural changes and without a doubt it can be disruptive to the user experience. It is better to version up those changes compared to doing an overwrite - which can put the entire experience at risk.
