Power User enrolments - no notifications being sent

Hi Everyone

I am new to this LMS (been using it for a few weeks).

We have a Power User who administers specific Health & Safety related e-learning courses and three days ago he enrolled lots of people on a course but notifications were not sent out due to the enroller being a Power User.

I can see from previous conversations in this forum that some people have overcome this enrolment notification issue by using the Digest: User enrolled in a course notification.

I have read through the guide and from what I can gather I can set the Digest notifications to be sent out every time a user is enrolled on a course (presumably e-learning and ILT) at a timescale of my choosing.  Assuming my understanding is correct, my questions are:

Does this mean you are using the Digest: User enrolled in a course for all courses instead of User enrolled in a course and User enrolled in ILT session?

Is it possible to use both types of notifications e.g. use Digest just for the e-learning courses our Health & Safety Power User administers and the User enrolled in a course and User enrolled in ILT session notifications for all other courses?

If I set up a Digest: User enrolled in a course notification with a time for later on today, will a notification then go out to the people who were enrolled on the course three days ago? If this is so, can I then change the notification timeframe so that future notifications go out at a different frequency?

Will notifications also go out for people who had already been enrolled on the same e-learning several weeks ago but have not started the course yet?

I hope this makes sense.

Many thanks

It will not, but you can go into the Enrollments tab in course manager, and on the green Actions menu there’s a Send Email option. You can email enrolled learners manually that way.

We have digest notifications enabled for all of our courses, and also have notification rules for course and session set up for courses that we need to automate. So yes, you can use both types of notifications.

“but notifications were not sent out due to the enroller being a Power User”

this shouldn’t matter as far as I’m aware.

if you make a digest notification right now, any past actions will NOT be notified. Only things that happen in the future.

@SarahBee we recently had the same issue but with the difference that the notification was generated for enrollments done by one of the PUs but not for the other two. The PUs have the same profiles and permissions, enrollments were for the same course but different sessions, and happened on the same day, around the same time. Neither us or helpdesk was able to find any issue in the settings of the course, notification nor PUs.

We do use both the digest and the User enrolled in ILT session, because users can be enrolled in an ILT course without being assigned a specific session.

We do not however use the notifications for assignment of learning plans because users would receive two emails, one with the course list of everything assigned in the learning plan, and another with the name of the learning plan itself.

Hope this helps :)

We use digest as an option platform wide. I’m not seeing power users utilizing it much.

Some of our companies use their own custom notifications, and I get a lot of questions from those companies as to why users got notifications. The answer is always “because that’s how you programmed it” 😊 and it’s a big enablement timesink for me, but we are a very white glove firm.

We sent excessive notifications on our last LMS and are going with “as few as possible by default” this time around.
