It will be great to have feedback from this group on a feature idea that Blackbaud has submitted for Docebo to consider implementing. Please have a look, share your thoughts, and upvote this idea to help us out.

Idea Post: Extended Enterprise: Assign multiple menus to a user record with visibility determined by domain | Community (docebo.com)

Current State:

  • Blackbaud operates multiple domains via Docebo Learn which point to unique training destinations that we offer to external audiences:
    • Customers: Blackbaud University (learn.blackbaud.com)
    • Partners: Blackbaud Partner Academy (partneracademy.blackbaud.com)
  • We have created a unique user menu for each of these domains/training destinations
  • Some user records have access to both training destinations. However, each user record can only be assigned a single user menu.
  • We must choose one user menu that will be visible to user records that have access to both training destinations, so they will always see that same user menu regardless of the domain/training destination they are visiting

Desired Future State:

  • The ability to assign multiple user menus to a single user record with instructions to make one user menu visible to the user record when they access one domain/training destination, and make another user menu visible to that same user record when they access another domain/training destination

we already do something similar where we add another domains homepage in the menu. You need to make sure those users have access to whatever is on that other domain though. It works quite well. You can also use “Hidden pages” to control access to certain pages you may not want to show in the menu

Thanks for the quick reply and suggestion to consider, @lrnlab!

By adding the homepage for another domain in the user menu, that means it will be visible to all user records that are assigned that user menu, correct?

A challenge for us with this approach is that only a subset of our user records have access to both domains/training destinations. If we add a link to the homepage for Blackbaud University to the user menu for Blackbaud Partner Academy, all of the user records with access to Blackbaud Partner Academy and that user menu will see that link, but only a subset of them will be able to follow the link to Blackbaud University.

Please correct me if I’m wrong, but that’s my understanding

@andrewhowellblackbaud How would the platform know which menu to display if there is more than one available?

While I think I can see the allure, I’m not sure I see how to do it.

I think to implement the solution that @lrnlab descirbed, you would need to have a 3rd menu for those persons who are in both tenants.

@KMallette Thanks for jumping in with your feedback :-)

I’ve submit a feature idea to Docebo so that we can reach the desired future state. In the current product, each user record can only have one menu assigned at a time so there isn’t a way to do it now.

Perhaps the way to implement the idea from @lrnlab is to create a new group of user records that have access to both domains/training destinations and then creating a new user menu that’s only visible to that group. So they would see the unique user menu for Blackbaud Partner Academy that includes the link to the homepage for Blackbaud University.

Hi,

We have implemented a workaround solution similar to that described by @lrnlab. It even allows users to update an additional field to select their preferred default homepage. However, it is complicated to configure and hard to scale - we are pushing the limits, with around 100 menus and groups that have different combinations of homepages.

We have also more-or-less abandoned use of Extended Enterprise because any given user can only access via one domain. Most of our users need to access multiple, hence the above workaround that “simulates” multiple domains using just one.

The proposed idea sounds like it would dramatically improve the situation and make extended enterprise useful in the process.

as stated above, you may need additional custom menus to address those in between groups...if you go down this route you should also note that the order of the menus on the ADMIN side will become an important factor as the way Docebo grants menu access if also based on what menu fits the user criteria first; so if a user could potentially fit part of 1 menu and part of another, they may be assigned the wrong menu. You need to think about what users need to be assigned what menu and order them accordingly...hope that makes sense.

@Alan Thanks for sharing feedback and context on your experience.

It would be great to have your upvote and vocal support on this feature idea that we’ve submitted to Docebo. I know it will help their product team to prioritize this suggestion if they can see it will help multiple extended enterprise customers.

@lrnlab Yes, your suggestion makes sense. Thank you for sharing it with us.

The layers of complexity to implement and maintain all of these menus is what we’re hoping to navigate around by sharing and championing this Extended Enterprise feature idea.
