Hello Extended Enterprisers!

We are in the process of re-branding, and we need to update the URL we use for one our Extended Enterprise domains that we use for our external clients.

We have changed the URL for a domain that is not widely used at the moment, and the update happened pretty smoothly (though it took the weekend for the new URL to redirect correctly).

We will be updating our heavily used domain really soon, and I wanted to know, has anyone else gone through this yet?  If so, what sort of communication plan did you use (if any) and what were some lessons learned after you all made the change?

@Annarose.Peterson  I have a couple of times and it can be a mess. We also had SAML 2.0 to consider and ran into quite a few issues with changing endpoints correctly.

In the end, we decided to create a new tenant under the new URL, get that all SSL’d, SSO’d, etc. and then move the BRANCHES of people over to the new tenant when it’s all ready. Then do you communications to let folks know the new domain. Get your IT group to redirect the old domain to the new one. If I recall correctly, we deactivated the old tenant pretty quickly after moving the people. We removed the CNAME for the old domain when our SSL certs expired.

OOOH This is brilliant!  You know what, this gave me an idea, I wonder if we can set up a custom page up with a message simply stating something like “we have moved, please save the new URL into your favorites.” Or something like that to catch all those folks who have the old URL saved, giving them a chance to update.

This is also a good point too! We weren’t sure what we should do with the CNAME for the old URL, so I will do the same when our certificate expires.

Thank you so much for sharing @KMallette !!!
