2 Learning Plans one course dont want users that have completed the course to retake

Course A is in two learning plans X and Y 

we want Course A in one learning plan X only 

we want to add training material to course A (name it B) and put it in plan Y only 

we don't want the users that already completed course A in the two learning plans to retake anything. 

How do we do that? 

Possible solution??

1. Duplicate Course A - and carry over training material. 
2. Rename copy of Course A to make it Course B 
3. make course A mutually equivalent to course B and vice versus 
4. add course B to learning plan Y  (now it has both original course A and duplicate course B)
5. remove course A from learning plan Y ( now LP Y has just B course) ???
6. ????

All the users that completed the original course A still have completed statuses
