Hello!

Our organization is attempting to gather a comprehensive training time data report. This would include trainings we offer internally through catalogs, LPs, courses, etc., but also externally offered trainings that employees log themselves. We are hoping to find an estimate of how long employees are spending on trainings each year (internal and/or external). For the internally offered trainings, we have that down and are good. However, for externally logged trainings, I cannot find an easy method to be able to find out how long each of the trainings that employees logged are.

Does anyone have any best practices or tips to be able to gather more quantitative data on hours spent for external trainings?

There is a report called, Users - External Training however since the basic external training record does not include a field to track the time spent on training, you can create an additional field and request that it be input as part of the record. Once you have this data, you should be able to export it in this report.

Got it! I didn’t realize that we could create custom fields for logging these. I appreciate it very much!

When you create them I think it also asks of the field is required or not and whether or the users can see it...so depending on how you are inputting the data (via CSV import, or allowing users to input themselves), you may want to test out these settings first on the additional field.
