Hi, I am trying to work out what a particular field means in a report I have run.

I have a run a Users-Courses report to check on completions for my courses. I noticed that there was a column called ‘Number of Sessions’. I am not entirely sure what this indicates.

When I looked at the Report Fields I found that there was a section called ‘Usage Statistics’ of which ‘Number of Sessions’ was one of the fields.

I have noticed that it is only giving a number for the e-learning sessions.

What triggers this number? Do they have to interact with any objects within the session or does simply opening the session trigger the count? Or do I have it completely wrong?

If someone could please help me as this could possibly be a useful statistic in regards to usage of our elearnings.

Thank you

Hi Susannah,

The “Number of Sessions” field in the Users-Courses report reflects the number of actions done (i.e: open a scorm object, complete a learning object, etc.) by the learner in a specific course.

However, there is not the possibility to track to which type of interaction it is referred to.

Hope this answers your question.

Cheers!

Hi Susannah,

This is a very interesting question! Docebo Learn platform does automatic time tracking when learners are engaged with content in a course. For instance, you can see aggregated statistics of how much time a user has spent in a course overall under “Training Material Time” within Course Management > Reports:

Essentially, this total time can be made up of various “sessions”, which are continuous time blocks where the user is interacting with content on the Course Player page. They might complete 2 hours of learning over a total of 3 days; if they did a little learning in the morning and afternoon of each day, that might result in 6 total sessions in the reporting field you are describing. The session tracking only starts when they begin to engage with Training Material by opening it, much in the way that an “active user” is tracked. I hope this explanation helps!
