Hi Ya’ll - Long time lurker, first time poster.
Yesterday, as I was eagerly anticipating the new course player update, I found myself still thinking of any untested aspects that I might have missed in preparation for this rollout. Well, I found an issue that I want to make sure everyone is aware of especially if you were just as excited as I was to hear about this particular enhancement.
The new course player, with all of its visual improvements, brings with it a set of new playback options for video training material that was most exciting. Most importantly to our org, is the setting that allows learners the ability to move backwards in the playhead while still locking the playhead from jumping forward.
The Problem with Go.Learn App] Currently, the unexpected behavior when accessed via the Go.Learn app is that the training material does not recognize this setting and does NOT lock learners from jumping forward.
pThe Behavior w/o Go.Learn App] Now, I understand that not all use the Go.Learn app and to those I can confidently assure that this setting works as docebo intended on desktop with one caveat: learners moving backward lose all forward progress.
My wish would have been for this setting to also lock users from jumping forward while still allowing them to backwards all while preventing learners from not losing their forward progress.
Ex. Let’s say a learner is watching a 15 min video with this setting activated. If at the 14th min they decide they want to revisit a portion that was 13mins prior because reasons they will be granted this ability at the cost of having to be locked into rewatching the same 13mins.
3The Solution] Do not use this ‘Learners can only move backwards’ option unless your learners are all on desktop. If your learners use the Go.Learn App, please use the other three options:
To those wondering and still reading, “What is the big deal with allowing learners the freedom to move around the playhead to their hearts content?” Well, let me explain how my organization uses video as a training material.
In our line of retail work, we train Individuals to perform specific jobs for Brands/Stores using in-house created training videos or content that is provided by the client. Because we are being paid to perform these jobs on behalf of the client, we like to make sure that our learners are watching these videos thoroughly. If they are allowed to jump around, they can easily skip any important details. And yes, we also use knowledge checks to confirm this
We also like to assign any missed recorded Teams call to those unable to make the live call. If it was a 45min training call, we want to ensure that those absentees are also watching/listening to a 45min call.
Support is Aware] A ticket was submitted yesterday but unfortunately we have not heard back.
Go.Learn App, Version 6.2.1, was tested by me on an iPhone 16 Pro.
This being a community, I wanted to share this behavior with you all and see if anyone else is experiencing this?
