When typing into the global search, options appear correctly, which is great. When I click on the course that I’d like to be taken into, it does not take me to it directly. Instead, it takes me to my selections Learning Plan homepage. From there, I’m left to search through all the options to find what I’m looking for. Is there a reason that when I click on a course from the global search that it doesn’t just take me directly to what I’ve selected?
Hi
- Is your course available ONLY as part of the learning plan? If you want someone to get to the course directly, then you would need it available in a channel/catalog without the learning plan as well.
- Are you expecting the click from the search results to also enroll you into the course and then have the course just start? Again, I think it needs to either not be part of a learning plan, or offered as a stand-along course
If I’ve mis-understood your question, please provide me some additional details.
Hi
Thanks for your response.
- This may be the answer I was looking for then. But as a superadmin, I have access to the Courses themselves, outside of the Learning Plans. We only offer to buy the Courses as part of each of our Learning Plans, not as standalone Courses. If that helps you with the setup of our platform.
- I am not expecting enrollment from this. I’m just expecting to be taken into the Course I’m already enrolled in and have access to. For example, If I search and click on Course 1 from global search, I would expect it to open Course 1 so I can start that. Instead it opens up the Learning Plan that Course 1 is in and there could be 8 Courses that I have to search through to find what I just searched and clicked on. It’s very confusing. This is especially true for our activities within each course as well. That’s even more difficult; to have to drill down through those. If each of the 8 courses has 10-20 activities and I searched for a specific activity, I can’t get to it from the global search because I have just landed on the Learning Plan instead of being taken to what activity I just searched.
Hope that provides additional context.
If that global search result is the primary driving factor of your user experience, then I’d recommend reconsidering how you have the rest of your course offerings configured. Having a lot of training materials in each course shell will make things harder to locate with search. Perhaps an Index (pdf) or adding the activities to a channel rather than a course. Not sure what would be really helpful...just trying to brainstorm a bit :-)
