Is it best practice to place a Learning Plan into a course format?  If so, what are the benefits?  Does it change any of the reporting features?  Thank you!

Hi, @BourneBeth So best practice is whatever works best for your audience.

In the Docebo platform, there is a hierarchy for the “pieces” that make up a ‘learning event’. This is the way that I think of it.

  1. Catalog/Channel … the largest grouping of “things” … it can contain learning plans or courses.
  2. Learning Plan … a group of courses
  3. Courses … Have two parts. The course shell (where you select all of the properties), and Training Materials. There are two kinds of courses, e-learning (meant to be self-paced) and ILT (meant to be instructor-led).
  4. Training Materials … Scorm, AICC, xAPI, PDF, .mp4, etc.

So to answer your question a learning plan is by definition in the course format.

Reporting can happen either by learning plan, by course, or by training materials. Again, the best practice is whatever works for your audience and stakeholders. Experimenting with the different report styles is a good idea so you can see how your data plays out. Most reports are usually User-Course.

Happy to answer any other questions for you.
