Hello!

I am building my organization’s onboarding. Does anyone have any best practices for how to include a link to another website as a training materials? I currently have it as HTML to open in a new window but it’s not ideal for the user.

HI @simone.yaghi we had the same issue...not only is the HTML not the best for this type of leaning object, it marks the user as “completed” as soon as it opens...Not sure how you plan to mark users as complete or whether you need to but here are few options:

  1. Use an authoring tool to create a SCORM wrapper that contains your link(s)...this allows you to keep the learning object as “in progress” until the completion trigger is enabled (this could be a user confirmation inside the same package or you could choose to have marked complete on launch)…SCORM gives you a bunch of options
  2. If you don't need to track completions, you could set-up a channel for onboarding that can house all your links and track who views the asset
  3. you could use the “File Repository” widget -this option has no tracking. We changed the label to rename it as, “Files / Resources” to make it more friendly

Hope you find an option you like.

Hi @lrnlab - can a channel be part of the entire onboarding learning plan? I’m not sure if that would work reporting wise. It looks like I might need to explore the SCORM option. thank you!

Hi @simone.yaghi not really but you can do the opposite. A learning plan can be part of a channel however if you need to track clicks to website along with other learning objects the SCORM option might work best. Another thought might be to the Assignment learning object to house your link if the user needs to confirm or obtain information from that link you want to evaluate.

We do the scorm approach for this using an iframe for the external website and then just have a “complete” type button the user selects when done and marks the course.

Hi @Bfarkas your solution sounds interesting. Do you have a sample/ screenshot that you could perhaps share with us please? Thank you.

@Bfarkas - In regards to the last comment left do you have a sample/screenshot you could share with me? Thank you.
