There is not a way I can set up my sessions so that a user can join a waiting list on one session and book a free place on another session that is scheduled for a later point in time, is there ?

users cannot do this themselves but an admin can enrol a user in more than one session. that said, the user cannot be enrolled and be on the waitlist; the waitlist is only at the course level not the session level.
