Hello,

We’re utilizing Observation Checklists within courses as a self-assessment and coaching tool. The goal is to have users rate themselves then their managers provide feedback and training opportunities where applicable. The Checklist goes back and forth a few times so the course isn’t ‘complete’ until all checklists within the course are done.

The issue I’m having is with notifications. Currently they are linked to the Checklists (as opposed to the course) because the manager and user need to know when responses from either side have been submitted. Because of this, a manager can receive a dozen notifications; especially when a new employee is going through the Checklists for the first time. The feedback we’ve gotten is that this is too many notifications.

There doesn’t seem to be a digest option for Observation Checklists, so I’m not quite sure how to remedy the situation.

  • Is anyone else using Observation Checklists in a similar way?
  • Any ideas for consolidating notifications?

Thanks!

Jill

Hi Jill,

I am new to checklists and do not have a solution to offer but wanted to ask if you had looked at using the task widget to display checklists in progress instead of using notifications. I am not sure if that functionality works if the checklist is within a course though.

Can you tell me more about your program for this use case? I am researching ways to get our coaching conversations program (currently tracked through a Smartsheet) into Docebo for use in 2024. This program replaces annual reviews. I am intrigued by your use of OC described above.

Best,

Hi,

We literally just launched a new resource page for those enrolled in Checklists using the widget you’re suggesting. Good call! We’ll monitor how that goes and then I think we’d be in a better space to determine if notifications are necessary.

As for the program, it’s pretty much a way to get managers to provide specific coaching/training to their new employees. For our Operations departments, we have identified competencies and tasks that are essential for their role. As a new employee, you go through the Checklists of these tasks and rate your ability. That goes over to your manager who then creates a plan to get you the resources you need to improve your skills. Ideally the manager communicates the plan with their employee via Checklists (so we have a record), and, as the employee’s skills improve, they update their self-rating of each of the tasks.

I hope this was helpful! Happy to further clarify or talk it out.

Hi Jill,

Thank you for the reply! I would love to pick your brain about this more if that's possible.

We are trying to migrate our Core Conversation Program into Docebo, its designed as quarterly coaching conversations that replace the annual review process. I am in the research phase of what our options can look like.

Kaylee
