How to show priority training to users?

Forum|alt.badge.img+2

Hi everyone!

How do users in your platform know what training to prioritize during their onboarding?

We’re running the issue where our new staff are getting auto-enrolled into a bunch of courses, but they have no idea where to start. I’d love to hear your thoughts on this!

We’re a small organization with lots of part-time and relief staff, and there are about 10 or so courses that every new staff member should complete as soon as possible. I’ve been experimenting with:

  1. A custom page, that has widgets/links to these courses.
  2. Enrollment attributes, where courses that need to be prioritized are marked as “Mandatory”.
  3. A learning plan, where courses that need to be prioritized are added to a learning plan.

I’m not sure the best, most user-friendly route forward. How do you handle things in your organization?

Hi,

you can also create a pre-filtered link to install on a custom widget that will bring the user to the My Courses page, pre-filtered for “mandatory” courses

Example: /learn/mycourses?mclp0=at-_mandatory~v-"enrolled_date_desc"

  • To create this, go to your My Courses page
  • Open the Enrolment attributes filter
  • Select the level you wish to display
  • Grab the link (only the portion after the site prefix (see above)

Users will land on a pre-filtered page of courses

@Sarahh - hi. We are in healthcare - and a big story is to get what is mandatory front and center.

Key to the strategy is using the tasklist widget.

Your ideas above are solid - but I would recommend if anything - you may want to drop people off with some sequences of training material (leveraging your #1 idea ) and a big START HERE message if the Task Widget doesnt seem to resonate.

We call the Task Widget the Things To Do section. It has been working like a charm since our golive almost 4 years ago.

I would then do a few CYA manuevers with a few key leaders/champions at your organization to ensure that you got the emphasis down. And then beyond that - consider making an LMS 101 type of a course for your managers and employees so that you can keep the friction down as you implement. Four or five short one minute videos did the trick for us on what to expect when we initially went live. We circled back and did a more formal course years later for managers as the My Team tools matured (in our opinion).

@lrnlab - you are very neat! A question - we havent been able to see the newer tasklist adjustments that are coming down the path with the next release (in the few sandboxes that I have had a chance to review with folks, but this custom link approach seems like it tunes up the filter - which is wicked clever. Can it be tuned up to show a user’s  “overdue courses”?

It has to be available as a filter so you could test it using the “deadline” filter.- use the “expired and overdue” option

/mycourses?mclp0=d-expiredAndOverdue~at-_mandatory~v-"enrolled_date_desc"

@dklinger - I’ve never used the tasklist widget, I’ll look into this, thank you! Also good to know that further tasklist adjustments are coming soon.

@lrnlab - I was originally thinking of doing that, with also pre-filtering to Enrolled + In Progress to keep the page very straightforward. Do you use Enrollment Attributes in your organization? I’d need to rejig some of our enrollment rules, so I’m trying to gauge if it’s worthwhile to turn this feature on yet.

@Sarahh yes we use them but not in enrolment rules. It shouldn't matter how you place the priorities but we opted to set them by branch via the enrolments page as not all users have the same priority level for the same course
