Question

Second person approves course

We have a course that incurs a cost and want supervisors to approve before the employee can take it. Basically, I created a course with a survey and the learner does the attestation that they’ll be able to access any other content. Then, I want it to route to the supervisor for approval before the rest of the learning plan is available to the employee. I can’t figure out how to make it so the supervisor can change a course status to make this happen.

We do not want to do the assignment download/upload option. Survey, test, or SCORM would all be fine. It can be a course or object in a course that will be put into the learning plan. I know how to lock the rest of the plan so the object/course isn’t available until this is done.

Since there is a cost each time, anytime the learner goes into a course with this as the first object, we’d want the approval done again.

Thanks for your help.

managers cannot approve a course enrolment unless you make them a power user. Unfortunately there is no notification for eLearning courses where a user is waiting for approval; only for ILT courses. there is a notification that can be sent after the approval takes place but the enrolment email will be invoked anyway. There is no concept of manager approval in Docebo (sadly).

Also note that for courses where you have a cost, when the PU (or manager in this case) changes the enrolment status, that becomes the approval and it supersedes the financial transaction itself. If your checkout is credit card only, then you should be OK. Please test thoroughly if this option is of interest to you.

Thankfully we handle the financial part completely separately. Thanks for the thorough response. I’m going to post to the development board to see if they can make this for us.

There may be some ideas out there already. I know I definitely posted one a few years ago but with the new ideas portal so many are missing or closed. ☹️

@EmilyW_Tacoma -- you may wish to explore the observation checklist as it has an option to add a manager approval. It can be added to a course as a training material that the user first fills out (the attestation) and is then sent to the manager to approve. Additionally there are notifications that can be sent to the manager to prompt them to approve and ones sent back to the learner as well.
