Self-enrollment courses now available in channels

I gotta be honest, this update sparks joy!  When I first heard this feature was coming I sang a little song - Hit it Etta James!

Social, informal and formal learning are coming together.  My love has come along, my lonely days are over, and life is like a song...🎵  There are a few use cases below, but I know there are many, many more and I really look forward to you sharing!

First a recap: Catalog vs Channels

Understandably this update has led to the question - so, what is the difference between channels and catalog now? Let’s borrow from @ Adam’s notes and do a quick review of the difference.

Catalog

Channels

  • Available to all Docebo Learn customers

  • Can contain Courses and Learning Plans

  • Displayed in Catalog Widgets and All Courses page

  • Assigned to Users, Groups, or Branches

  • Control Course & Learning Plan visibility

  • Available to all Docebo Learn customers

  • Can contain Courses and Learning Plans

  • Displayed in Channel Widgets and All Channels page

  • Assigned to Groups or Branches

  • Rely on catalog and/or enrollments for Course & Learning Plan visibility

  • For Discover, Coach & Share customers, supports:

    • Assets & Playlists (informal training content)

    • Questions, Answers, and Comments

    • Expert assignment

    • Learner asset contribution

    • Cohorts

Until now, courses only appeared in channels if you were already registered.  No more!  Now we can showcase courses in both catalog and channels.  If I can quote the initial idea post, “We've been using the channels as social ways for experts to promote their own information. Many of them have also wanted to promote some of the good courses our enablement teams are formalizing...” This I love and this we can now do!

Configuration

Configuration on this one is nice and easy, but keep in mind, it is a global setting.  From the Admin menu, go to Advanced Settings > Channels.  You will see a single option, select and you are good to go.

Rules on engagement

Learners can self-enroll into courses from channels only if:

Remember that courses under maintenance are not shown in channels and that learners cannot see learning plans available for self-enrollment in channels.

🆕 What else is new in the docebo suite this month:

  • Enrollment rules enhancements

  • Shapes are now supported in the Go.Learn App

  • Blue Jeans V2

  • Mobile: Open Source Software Terms of Service page

  • Docebo Learning Impact: New APIs for Evaluation Data

  • Docebo Flow: New CSS token giving you greater flexibility in the launcher design

  • Docebo Flow: Number of published launchers you can create increased to 50

  • Docebo Flow: Number of static courses available in a static course
    list increased to 10

📚  Want to learn more?

Here’s a list of resources available to you for the November 2021 Release:

💡  3 ways these updates could help you:

1️⃣  Learning leaders, it is your time to shine 🌟🌟🌟

It is security compliance time…  Hold the excitement! You know the routine.  You are looking for 100% compliance (could happen), your security team wants to send an email a day reminding everyone of the importance of security and your leadership team is reminding everyone about the upcoming SOC audit and, and, and…

How can you help?  Well you can be the glue that holds it all together and reduce the number of emails in everyone’s inbox (hero status 🦸🦸‍♀️)!  Let us help you. Picture this!

  • Create a new Security Hub page that speaks to the monthly activities.

  • Create a new channel dedicated to the theme of the month - Security!

    • Give a voice to your security team to share additional documents and information.

    • Post a video from your executive team supporting the cause and reminding everyone about the upcoming audit.

    • Showcase additional security training for your employees to self-enroll

  • Add an Ask the Expert widget and filter on the security channel so that all of the relevant questions and expert answers can be shared with all.

2️⃣  And what about your customers?

Well here is your hero moment!  Do you have a new product rolling out?  Consider using pages +  channels to showcase your offering!

  • Create a new product page.  (🎨 I am confident marketing will help you out on this one!)

  • Mix customer training courses and how-to guides along with product “one-pagers”, quick informal product demos or customer testimonials to help drive interest.

  • Add your Q&A widget for customer questions and ensure your product experts and sales team are ready and able to respond.

3️⃣  Updates to enrollment rules

The enrollment rules interface has been given a facelift making it easier to search and navigate your rules.  Not to be missed, you now have the ability to add codes to your enrollment rules.  This addition can help with standardizing and sorting through your rules.

Tell me, who doesn’t love a little standardization?

HI @HawleyKane any reason why Docebo does not allow the courses in Channels with “Pending Admin Approval” settings? We were all set to use this but once I read your note, my plans went out the window...disappointed :pensive:

We work mostly with eCommerce and require admin approval for most courses that have a cost as the local admins must be able to approve the spend before they allow the user to proceed.

IN the use case scenario that was presented yesterday, unfortunately there was no mention of this limitation which will now cause us to have to rethink what we thought would have been a good solution.

Let me know if you’d like me to post this to IDEAS. Thanks.

@lrnlab Now I worry I am wrong!  Let me double check and get back to you!  I will confirm and yes, if it is something you need and we cannot support, please share as an idea!

@HawleyKane yup, sadly I just tested with the approval setting and the course disappears from the channel although it’s still visible on the admin side. I’ll log this idea right away. Think you may have some disappointed admins out there...

@lrnlab Thank you.  We appreciate all of your feedback.  I have already tagged the product manager on this discussion.

Also, congrats being our very first Hero in the community!

@lrnlab Happy Friday. I reached out to @Marco.T this morning and he has confirmed (as you had) that the courses available in channels are those where the user can self-enroll without approvals. This enhancement primarily addresses the need to support discoverability and allow organizations to blend formal and informal content around skills / competencies or themes.  That said, we are very interested in your use case and appreciate that this does not fully address your need.   Please do add an idea.  We are interested in as much detail as you can provide.

This sounds like a great idea but…

I’ve just tried to turn it on and all the channels disappeared.

Any ideas why?

Thanks @HawleyKane, turns out there is a slight bug. Support have been very helpful and have said the patch is expected to be released by 16 December. We’re quite excited to use this new feature now.

Are we now able to search for a course to have it show the enrollment rules it is tied to? This is our biggest challenge, in which we had to create a manual Excel tracker. Otherwise, you have to click through each rule to find out which rules the course is assigned to.
