SCORM Version Update Issue: Learners Forced to Retake Course

Whenever I upload a new version of a SCORM file, the system prompts users to retake the course since it’s treated as a new version. However, this isn’t always necessary—sometimes the update is as minor as replacing a video, and learners don’t need to retake the entire course.

Because of this reset, learners who simply want to revisit the course are being forced to start over due to the completion restrictions that prevent skipping sections.

Is there a way to allow learners to revisit the course without having to retake it from the beginning?

@JMorgan - hi - so there are two settings for updating a training material.
If you are not doing a structural change and you are adjusting just an asset related to it in the SCORM file? It is a good example where you can most probably get away with just overwriting the file. That should not enforce a course to need to be retaken from Docebo’s standpoint - and it is something I do on a regular basis.

For other courses - we are a bit more deliberate and we attempt to avoid a white screen of death (not uncommon when structure changes for a course in Rise). In that case we upload a new version and sometimes we push harder and upload a whole new training material to be taken and hide the old one (with the massive caveat of people losing their bookmarking if they were in progress with it).

If you go down the path of uploading a different version of the training material? I believe you are pushing your learners down the option you are experiencing.

All that said? I still work alot with Storyline...and more on occasion in Rise.

Hi @dklinger , thank you sharing your insights. I’ve done both where I’ve simply replaced the SCORM for SCORM. That when I get the white screen of death, haha. I then moved the new version into Central Repository and it resolved the white screen issue. However, if the same user who had previously completed the old version and wanted to revisit the SCORM again, it forces them to retake it as if it’s a brand new course and have to go through the videos and interactions again, in order to get to the section they originally wanted to revisit. So is there a way to override this so that the previous learners don’t have to go through the course again? Thanks for your help with this!
