Hi there!

I am utilizing observation checklists as training material in an elearning course in order to record in-person evaluations, kind of like a practical test for things like Forklift driving and LOTO training.

The way I have it set up right now, it requires the learner to go in and “start” the course before the trainer that is evaluating can go in and fill out the checklist. Does anyone know of another way to get around this? I need the activity to be logged in the user personal summary to prove that the evaluation happened and employee “passed” their practical eval, but having the learner pulled from the production floor to launch this is burdensom according to our local admins.

Thanks in advance for any ideas you can send my way!

I do not know of a full work around, but my thought would be to have a QR code for the users to scan that goes directly to the course to be launched to help minimize disruption.

Certainly not the best option… but it is something!

We accomplish this as a assignment with an upload. The users dont upload their own. They are submitted by whoever completed the observation/checklist, typically a supervisor or manager. The electronic format would work if they have a tablet or phone to carry with them to complete as they perform the task. Like operating a forklift, we expect them to do that observation/checklist in real time. Our environment doesnt allow for the electronic devices. Here is the basic process for most of our hands-on evaluations:

  1. User does something in the LMS, typically an e-learning about the training or what the checklist is for.
  2. Someone completes the observation either immediately or after more OJT occurs to improve competency with the task.
  3. The checklist is evaluated/uploaded to the LMS by someone with admin rights to the LMS.
  4. The checklist is scored/evaluated in the LMS and that items is then complete in the course.
  5. Typically that completes the entire course out for that user.
