Thoughts on a sample test?

I work with a few other organizations that offer certifications, one thing I find that helps in studying is a sample test. It gives a learner some relief from test anxiety AND a way to see not only what topics they think they need to study, but what the people making the test think they need to study.

In short… people hate to spend 400 bucks ( or ask their boss to spend 400 bucks) only to fail on their first attempt because they thought they were ready.

Thanks, @Davefox and everyone who contributed to this thread, (and apologies -- I was out of office last week, so just catching up on all the latest chatter in the Community)! Great point. We have sample questions with explanations in the Study Guide, as well as a mini-sampler of the test, but it’s not really a practice test.

I completely agree that a simulated practice test, scaled down from the actual test, would augment our prep materials nicely, so @pmo I will take this feedback and develop it together. Ideally, it would involve testable conditions (include the browser download, etc.), not just a pdf. It will involve producing more questions that can’t appear on the actual exam, so please allow for some lead time.

I agree, sample test are a great way to build confidence and judge your own readiness. The sample tests should be in the same style and be aligned to objectives on the actual Exam. When you work with exam vendors, practice exam questions can be built into your development cycle.

Agreed. A sample test would be useful. Ideally in the same format as the actual test.

Another suggestion for sample exams, have more than one.
Your certification exam will be 60 questions, if you have 60 practice questions don’t put them all on the same practice exam. 60 questions is a lot to get through in “study mode”. I suggest creating a question bank(s) and randomly select questions each time a candiate takes a practice exam. With random questions each time, they will likely take more practice test and learn be better prepared as they wont be studying to a specific set of questions. This only works if your random questions hit across the objectives on the exam.

I believe there are some practice test questions in the Docebo Learn Admin Cert Study Guide.

Agree! even just seeing the actual layout of the test is helpful.

There are a few for style an strategy, but a few questions with immediate answers is not the same as a practice exam.

Completely agreed. Not sure if a sample test could have randomized questions on every attempt, as it would become more of an actual exam and also too much of an effort from Docebo side as well.

But a Sample test built on the lines of the actual exam would really help build confidence and prep us for the cert.

@anikhat Randomizing is easy and we want it to “feel” like an actual exam. You can randomize using question banks in Docebo test, even making sure you get questions from all sections using questions categories. You can also do sections and bank for random questions on a test with Articulate and other courseware development tools. It is not a huge effort, just takes some setup when creating the test.

@dianex.gomez - Ah alright, that’s nice to know :).

I was under the impression that randomizing will require more questions to be made part of the test and then the system randomly picking a few of them to present it to the learners on each attempt.

Yes, I agree with you :)

Totally agree. A sample test would bee a great asset, and valuable to the candidates😀

I believe this is on the radar of being worked on, it definitely is a nice to have for the test. One thing to keep in mind in terms of the fear of failing first try after spending the money is that you get 3 attempts per spend, so at least not out the money purely due to a format issue.

Hello!

We’re investigating the practice exam and one question came up during our investigation that we could use your help with.

In terms of the practice exam delivery how were you all envisioning this occurring?

  • A standalone course that the user would enroll in.
  • An additional training material within the “Study Resources’ course located on the Docebo Pro page.

Thanks in advance!

I think either honestly works.

Personally, I would love it to be as close to real as possible, so that makes me think the course, but agree honestly either works, especially if the second lets a solve be available sooner and then maybe something more robust longer term?

I agree that either works. I think as a training material (bullet 2) would be best, as it keeps your study guide contained to one course. If you add it as a separate course (bullet 1), I recommend a learning plan with both courses to make sure all studying for the exam know of both resources.
