Banner or popup feature?

I am not sure if I missed this some where or if this function exists but a manager was wondering if it is possible to have a pop up or banner appear on the homepage for certain groups or those that are in a course to remind them to submit the survey?

Or would this be an email notification instead?

@isaal This is something we too needed in our organization. As mentioned in the other comments, managers have access to the My Teams page that lists what each of their employees is working on and/or needs attention.

If you want a pop-up to appear, my recommendation would be to look into implementing a Digital Adoption Platform (DAP) to your site. That’s what we are doing when we want pop-ups to appear for certain users/groups.

This would be handled in the notifications.  I am unaware of any pop up currently built into the system.

There is a fairly large need of the system to provide more functionality and better widgets for Direct managers.   We are working with the Development team to build out functionality that a direct manager can be a role assigned to a course and or a observational checklist.   If they had that functionality then  the assignment section of the widget  could be populated for the Manager for only the people under them.   This would show a bit of what you are asking for as well as providing a much crisper role where the managers could see specific items for their direct reports and only their direct reports.    Otherwise you have to re-create the same management structure in groups and handle it that way.   Very overly complicated.

Sorry long response to your question but we are working on changing some key gaps with Direct managers with the Docebo teams

Hi Eric, Very interesting.  We are using the My Team page for our managers which contains their direct reports, would this be an expansion on that?

Yes.  This would expand the My teams page as well as provide better visibility in the “Task List” Widget.  Thus you could have that banner on your front page for the Managers to see what was assigned to them to address based on only those people in their team.

There are some roles that are clearly missing form the system.   So if you have a common training or course that the direct supervisor is the one who needs to evaluate (assignment) there is no way to have that assignment tied only to the direct supervisor short of putting that supervisor as an instructor for that course.  The problem with that is if they are the instructor and you want another supervisor to also have that course for their staff,  they too would need to be made an instructor.   Now with two instructors you no longer have each supervisor seeing only their own staff.   If there are compliance type documents or you are in the EU where data security is tighter, this becomes a major issue.

What we are working on is making the role of the direct manager a role that can be assigned to a course like what oyu would do with a learner role or an instructor role.     Like the instructor role the direct manager would be able to see and approve assignments but only for those on their own team.   Another area or thought with this type approach is that of Observational checklists.  Imagine if you could have a better workflow with the OC and it was tied to the role of direct manager.   There are so many things that could be done from that of common Observational checklists for a production line but it would be tied to the appropriate supervisor.  Or in a larger sense you could create a PA or user evaluation that is tied only to the direct manager.    Many many many possibilities if they fix this and do it right.

The even bigger thing is that they need to reinvent the way that they provide rights for certain roles.   I have outlined a suggestion to the design team via our account manager.   This would allow for any role to have configurable rights within the system and not just those limited rights that Docebo design team (with limited real world experience) has set up for certain roles.

If the group of folks you want to target are in a group or branch to distinguish them, you could technically give them a unique homepage/menu that is essentially a clone of the normal homepage/menu except add an html or iframe widget to the top. The widget could then have a banner/image/slider/etc. added to it and only they would see.

Note it would show to the entire group regardless of completion status unless you made the group based on their completion.

This type of DMgr notification would be very helpful. I’ve got use cases in my to-do pile right now...

You can edit the header or footer message to contain messaging.

Keep in mind this changes it for all LMS users.

Header

Header in upper right

Header is changed in Configure Branding and Look.

We then used Custom Styles to make the message all red.

/* ////////////////////////////////
Change color of header message
//////////////////////////////// */
.doc-layout-header-message div, doc-layout-header-message .doc-layout-header-message p, doc-layout-header-message .doc-layout-header-message span {
color: red;
font-weight: bold;
}

Footer

Footer is changed in the Docebo White Label section.

  • Please also note that in the header and footer you can use an external iframe. Not the most secure item though.

One thing my team has thought about doing is to repurpose the terms and conditions or privacy policy popup to serve more as a pop up when people enter the system. We haven’t done it yet, but it’s on our list of tasks to try.

Yes there are many work arounds for the limitations of the systems design.   None of which make it easy for the admins.   They need to do some basic fixes and upgrades to the system and not worry as much about cosmetic stuff.

Yes you could do this but as you said, this will impact all users.   In order to address what was asked above and have it tied to the actual group or users that need to take action,  Docebo needs to update and fix the permissions so that they meet the standards that most other LMS systems follow.

Wow, thanks for all the great ideas.. I have a lot to test out now and see which we prefer. :) I can’t mark more than one as best answer but I think there is a lot here.
