Using an LTI to Embed Qualtrics into a Course

Has anyone created or used an LTI to embed a Qualtrics survey as a module at the end of a course?  (Example: https://www.qualtrics.com/marketplace/canvas/)

Use case: We have Qualtrics survey with course effectiveness questions that we’ve been using for years and with three different LMSs.  We want a way to put the Qualtrics survey in the course (rather than emailing it later) to (hopefully) increase response rates.  Keeping the same survey allows us to gather better longitudinal data, so we don’t want to just replicate the survey in Docebo’s survey maker.  The best solution I’ve come up with is an iframe, so any suggestions are welcome!

Hello,

We’ve created a single slide SCORM with the link to a Qualtrics survey.

As we want the survey to still be optional, we have the SCORM move to complete because they viewed the single slide, not because they clicked the ‘button’ that opens the Qualtrics survey in a new window.

As we want the survey to be optional, we set the preceding training material to be the end object marker.

However, our struggle with having the survey link in a separate SCORM is in how to configure the proceeding training material if it is a SCORM.

  • When the proceeding SCORM training material is played in Theater Mode, individuals don’t always know there is a survey, and they will just close the tab the SCORM is playing in. They never see the survey training material because they never see the Syllabus unless they ‘close’ theater mode.
  • When the proceeding SCORM training material is played in In-Line Mode, we have so many learners who keep clicking the player navigation buttons for ‘next lesson’.   They get extremely confused on some of our internally created SCORM files.
  • While we can make the proceeding SCORM a pre-requisite for the Qualtrics survey SCORM, and have the proceeding SCORM play in ‘In-Line Mode’, the problem with this configuration is that the proceeding SCORM does not register as complete until the screen is refreshed.  So it looks like the survey is still locked.

Not sure if this is helpful. We don’t use Qualtrics surveys on everything, just a few courses.  I have no experience with LTI.

I created an xAPI wrapper for our qualtrics survey. It allowed me to send the course ID and user ID to qualtrics so we don’t need to ask the survey taker for this info. We use branching logic there to display the correct types of questions (like asking them for feedback on the instructor for ILT courses)

It passes a “completion” to Docebo once the learner has the survey open for 10 seconds.
