Checking for interest - ILT Checkin

Hi everyone - in another lifetime, I worked with a team to develop an app to help check people into ILTs.

I do love that a workflow for working with QR Codes that an instructor points out during their engagement will help to “unpair” what used to be a corner with Learning Evaluations and is coming along to Go.Learn.

But this represents just one workflow when it comes to ILTs and helping to reduce the burden with checking people into/out of learning events.

A question - is there any interest in other ILT checkin workflows?

A few examples - is there interest in a workflow for

  • a person that is walking into a training event to enter an identifier into an iPad to be verified at the time of checking in?
  • a person that is walking into a training event to sign into a traditional sign in sheet that has an identifier that can be scanned in later (meaning a code is scan-able along the line that the sign-in sheet has the person’s name)?
  • an instructor or proctor scans a person’s badge before they walk into a training location
  • an instructor wants to mark those attended as complete, incomplete, or no show

These aren't caveats to have the attendee scan a QR Code approach. Nor does it replace the value of verifying identity at an event. Please know that we recognize that ILTs create an interesting challenge with gotchas because they represent a physical security that can be considered too loose for an event.

For example - anyone can scan a QR code and login with another person’s credentials to help say that another person was at the event.

And recognizing after some thought, there is nothing perfect but there are ways to mitigate the risk of entry into an event. For example, with online learning sometimes we ask people to login with some level of multi-factor authentication to make it less likely that another person is spoofing being that person.

Going further even my bulleted examples:

  • a person can enter another persons identifier or user ID into an app
  • a person can sign for another person on a traditional sign in sheet
  • an instructor misses a person that should have been scanned into the event
  • an instructor misses entering a person’s post status
    • the instructor marks a person’s post status erroneously

This can make ILTs messy and that is even beyond a crtitical need of establishing a structure that remains mine-able. Many of our shops still do them (still support instructor led training). And it is because “it just works” to convey from one human to the next a training that we take on the risk.

So just a general poll - could an app that could address the first four bullets - could it help your shop?

Dont worry - my promise - I am not trying to sell anything - just polling for interest.

Actually - what I didnt mention was the mobile app was integrated with the learning management system (of the time).

@dklinger I have some interest, but I’m not sure of the shape yet. I can see any of those 4 bullets being a possible workflow for us.

We have semi-tractors made out as mobile operating rooms, which travel to locations for surgeons to train on new equipment/procedures, etc. This is where they would get their first QR code for simple registration to our Docebo Learn platform although this is still under discussion. I anticipate that there will be variations due to the variations in our business. But along the way (near future), we hope to build out live streaming events, publicized by email to existing members of Docebo, where they would attend via an vILT. QR or enrollment links would be the “thing”. And yes, via mobile...they are surgeons.

@KMallette - hey - I will ping you via a DM. And share with you a few thoughts.

Coming from the healthcare industry first? “Physical security” is a bigger story. And without a doubt - folks see the value of it and the burden associated with that value...so this is one example where an app that supports tying itself to improve more manual workflows and can help.
