Creating a Free Order Learning Plan

We are creating a collection of courses that stack into a credential. We wanted to attach a certificate to completing all the courses in the bundle.

I was thinking we would use learning plans, but we don’t want the users to HAVE to take the courses in order, or even take all of them. But if they do take all of them, we’d like them to get a certificate.

To be clear and keep it simple, if we have 5 courses that learners can take in any order, how can we put them in docebo to show that they completed a certain certificate if they complete all 5?

PS - it says in this attending learning plans article that you can take a learning plan in free or sequential order: https://help.docebo.com/hc/en-us/articles/11414202170898-Attending-learning-plans

I just can’t figure out how to do the free order. Help!

Thanks!

Hi Daisy -

In a learning plan, you’ll just add the five courses, but make sure the chain icon for pre-requisites are togged off (grayed out). This will allow the learners to navigate the courses in any order of their choosing.

I might recommend you ordering the courses alphabetically, just to remove any perception of another intended sequence. It might also help for you to communicate that there is no prescribed order when you communicate to learners.

Edit: I would also uncheck the “mandatory” option for all but one course. You need one mandatory object in a learning plan, so perhaps add a course that is just a “Welcome and Overview” that features directions.

Hope that helps!

@shanejacques gets the gold star here when considering learning plans as a delivery method for what you are trying to do. I do think if you explore badges and gamification, you may be able to award a person for completing a suite of courses.

But no doubt, with a learning plan - you can establish a learning plan as a container today to award a certificate.

The certificate comes along if a person completes optional, mandatory or prerequisites with their learning as Shane points out.

IMHO - this is baffling me a little bit - but what you just described seems like a very flat use case for a certification that is not “reupping” itself. BUT dont go down this rabbit hole because the devil is in the details. (Certifications are essentially a big “or” statement….Meaning - if you choose more than one course in certifications, the certification will be issued when one of the courses or learning plans is completed, not upon completing all of the assigned courses or learning plans.

And it looks like a certificate does not map to a certification - only LPs and Courses - which is blowing my mind. (I mean the word certificate is in the word certification 🙄.

Now to be fair Certifications are being redone as we currently speak - and this may be a good use case to call out.
