Hi All!

With our previous LMS we had a 25 hour/year CE requirement, with certificates offered to those who met that requirement or went above and beyond (Bronze, Silver and Gold levels). Our old LMS made it easy to both assign a time value to items (such as video length) or time spent on an activity (such as a webinar).

We have paused this entire system while we’ve transitioned to Docebo (we launched November 2021) because the focus seems to be on credits vs. time. We are starting to try and redesign our whole system and figure what a new credit-based requirement would look like. We’d like to try and tie gamification badges into this a well. A couple questions for discussion:

  1. How many of you have implemented a CE system, what does it look like, and do you have any tips/tricks or best practices? One idea we have is to assign one point to each piece of training material in a course, and that becomes its credit value (5 items = 5 credits). Or, giving documents 1 point and a video say 5 points. How do you all determine how much a course or learning plan is “worth” in credits?
  2. Do you use badges in any way as a CE system?
  3. Gamification makes it easy for a user to see how many points they’ve earned (X points per badge) but there doesn’t seem to be an equivalent way for a user to see how many credits they’ve earned by completing courses. Is there a way to do that?

Hi there!  We have many states and many different licenses that we use our platform to track CEU’s for our Team Members. We  We use this via badges that are awarded per ILT upon completion.  It’s not an automatic process, as we also have to track sign in sheets, but it works really well!  I’ve asked my E-Learning Center Specialist to come comment to give you a more in-depth answer on how we make this work.

Hi,

My company has to keep track of CEUs in order for our team members to keep their registration and/or certification. We have implemented using the badges system through gamification. You can set up the badges to equal the amount of points/credits that each user needs. For our trainings, we have to submit them to the state and they let us know what they are worth. I set up the badges based on that. Within each badge it is set to automatically be awarded once the user has attended each course for the correct amount of time. If you have a list of courses that they need to complete before awarded the badge, you can select that they complete all the following courses before awarded this badge.

If you need to keep track of both points and credits, within each course you can track the number of credits, and use the badges to keep track of the points.

@shenry thank you, this is a great answer! I had been thinking of something along these lines for us. We don’t have trainings that need to comply to a state standard so we’ll have to figure out the worth ourselves, but I really like the idea of tying it into the badges as an easy way for users (and us admin folk) to track their progress.
