I’ve been searching in the community and looking for best practices for managing ILT course material. I couldn’t find answers to my question and wondering how others handle the training material for their ILT courses – looking for best practices.

We have courses set up that have multiple sessions. Example, we have one course with many sessions offered throughout the year. Learners can enroll in the session that works for their schedule. We have material that we only want available to learners after they complete the course and do not want enrolled learners (for upcoming sessions) to be able to see the material.

  • Is there a way to control the training material based on the learner’s status changing from enrolled to completed?
  • Is there a way to control the training material by session?
    • If I use the Publish setting in the Training Material from 5/22/25 to 5/23/25 wouldn’t enrolled learners for a session on 5/29/25 have access before their session starts?

The course material would be reference materials like the presentation, Excel files and instruction documents.

I appreciate your feedback and sharing your best practices.

Not sure you can do that within the same course. Once a user is enrolled they have access to the training materials. If you restrict access by say, unpublishing some content, this will affect all users.

You might be better off creating a group of those that have completed the ILT course and then use the Enrolment rules + that group to assign a learning course with the training materials. Could that work for your use case?

The only thing you can make visible to certain sessions are the widgets. You can house documents here, but it looks like it doesn’t support videos or anything like that. It’s also either there or isn’t, you can’t make it visible based on a status.

Thank you @lrnlab  for that suggestion, we will definitely consider that. My only concern with that would be the number of groups that we would have to create based on our growing number of ILT courses.

your groups can be based on more than 1 ILT course, just depends on whether the relationship between the ILT course and next parts they need to complete are one-to-one or whether several ILT courses all lead to the same next steps...hope this makes sense.
