Question

Can a certificate be issued if the course is in progress?

Hello,

Our users often create course in order to help our employees prepare for a State Certification test.  All of the training material is technically optional, and they issue a certificate when the user passes the test in the training material.  We are finding that the certification will not generate if the course is not in “complete” status.  Is there a way for the course to issue/generate the certificate even if the course is in “in progress” status?  I realize it sounds weird to do, but some of the training material might be review for the user, so we give them the option to skip it.  If that material is started then the course stays in “in progress” and no certificate will generate.  If the material is not started and just skipped, then the course will be considered complete and the cert does generate.  When it is in progress, we have to manually complete the course for the user.  Just wondering if there was a setting in the properties or somewhere that will let you issue the certificate based solely on the passing score of the test and not rely on the course being in complete status.

No you cannot, they are only generated once the course is completed

@Bnunez where @lrnlab is technically correct? Let’s pause for a second and think deeper about what you are saying with your inquiry to get you to a better outcome - so let me ask you a few questions:

- Are there many training materials as in many in Docebo that compose the course?

  • Is the exam a separate training material from the review material?
  • Are their any “must review” materials?
  • Do you need to enforce any sequence of events? (Maybe read a getting started HTML training material for example).

The reason why I am asking is because you can mark the assessment training material as the end marker for the course. By a person completing that training material? It goes to completion, irregardless of the progression with the other training material - unless you enforce some level of sequencing.

So the course could inherently pull off what you want to pull off - if you can separate your resources from your assessment.

Thank you!

Here are my responses:

  • Is the exam a separate training material from the review material? Yes- the exam is set up as a separate training material, but it is still in the same course.  They are trying to avoid having to set up a separate course just for the exam.
  • Are their any “must review” materials? No- none of the material is considered required or prerequisites for the test.
  • Do you need to enforce any sequence of events? (Maybe read a getting started HTML training material for example). No, the user is able to review the material in any order and skip any that they chose.  If they skip some material and never actually start it, the course will complete, and the test will issue a certificate.  The issue happens when they start the material and don’t finish it.  That is when the course gets stuck “in progress” because...technically they are in progress.

I will look into marking the assessment training material as the end marker of the course and see if we can get that to work.

Thank you!
