Categories on learner dashboard

Hello!

We have a customer that wants sub-catalogs or categories of courses. Their courses are already broken down into 4 catalogs, but they would like categories under one of those. They also want these subcategories/catalogs to display on the learners’ dashboards but I am having a very hard time figuring out how accomplish this. I have created two test courses and put them both in the same catalog but different categories. There is no category widget for dashboards, but I keep seeing references to this being accomplished with the catalog widget and displaying associated categories as “tiles.” Does anyone have experience with this or other ways to further categorize courses? We don’t want them in a learning plan but as individual courses grouped together. I hope at least some of this makes sense!  Thanks in advance

There aren’t really sub-catalogs.  i would use Channels, but there’s aren’t sub-Channels either.  The way we have ours organized is we have 12 main channels and each of those takes you to a page where you can pick from what we refer to as sub-channels, but they’re really just channels in their own right.

You can “pre-filter” your catalogue search results and create a widget with those links

  • Got to your catalogue page
  • Select the desired category
  • See the URL at the top of the page; it should look like this:

https://[your site].docebosaas.com/learn/catalog?ctldoc-catalog-0=category_id-3

the last part is the category filter.

The results would be displayed like any other catalogue search results. When using these you will also need to make sure that your users have access to the those courses.

Hope this helps.

Thank you so much for this!  I was able to try it after I determined I was missing a huge piece, in that we did not have “use categories tree” checked in the catalog options in Advanced Settings. Unfortunately when I turned that on it displayed some other categories and not just the ones associated with this particular branch. I don’t think we set these (categories) up correctly in the very beginning unfortunately.
