Maybe I am missing something…. why aren’t leaderboards associated with a contest?

I mean, I can create a leaderboard, and essentially map it to the same thing, but what is the benefit of running a contest if you can’t show people how they are doing in it?

Which brings me to my next question.

Can I show a specific leaderboard in a widget instead of the learner having to select from the drop down? Haven’t figured out how yet.

Imagine I have a ‘contest’ page…..so I want so show the leaderboard for THAT contest on the top of the page….

Any help is appreciated.

OMG! I was just about to ask this same thing!

I just implemented gamification to test it with a SMALL group and created our first contest and was surprised I couldn’t see a leader board for the contest  How are they to know who is in the lead?  Where is the competition?  I think either I am missing something or Docebo is missing a major feature!

And yes, yes, yes to creating a specific widget for a  current contest!

Hi, I know this thread is old, but we just started using Gamification functionalities.

Every contest has an own chart, which can be accessed in several ways:

  • pressing the gamification button - the “cup” icon in the top-right of any page, then in the gamification menu select “Contests”
  • or if you have any gamification widget, opening it to see more (to see all leaderboards/contests/badges etc), it will also open the gamification menu and you can select “Contests”
  • then in the “Contests” you need to unfold the right contest and you will see a top 10 rank and an option to “View full chart”

You can also create a leaderboard and configure it to display a similar ranking with the contest (configure it to consider the same badges that give points in the contest, configure the same availability period, configure the same or similar name with the contest). It will show the same rank, but the leaderboard will be a different object than the contest and it will have a separate calculation.

To attract the learners to see progress, you can either:

  • create a gamification widget configured for “contests” only and show it on your front page
  • create a gamification widget configured for “leaderboards” only and show your leaderboard on the frontpage
  • a combination of the above, you could also include the badges to be rewarded for higher visibility
  • if your learners are familiar with the gamification button (top-right) just let then access the contest details from there and don’t show a widget

I also noticed some limitations:

  • leaderboards update almost immediately after a course has been completed, but contest charts took up to one hour for me to update
  • leaderboards can be configured anonymous, so the user can’t see the other users in it, but if you also configure a contest for the same then they can see every user in the contest ranking chart
  • the gamification widgets will always show everything (contests, leaderboards or badges or combinations), you can’t limit it to a specific contest/leaderboard/list of badges; this means the learners have to pick the right object from that drop-down list

I tested only the You are the highest scorer! type of contest, which involves configuring additional points-only badges for the points.

I agree with your suggestions and there could be even more:

  • create a leaderboard mapped to each contest by default and let you configure it
  • let you configure the visibility of each of the menu options in the gamification area (contests, leaderboards, badges, contest chart, top10, full chart, etc.), maybe you don’t want to show it there or maybe you want to filter out some old stuff
  • let you create anonymous contests
  • display dynamically the points you can get for each contest
  • display dynamically the points you earned when you finish each course and the related leaderboards and contests that considers those points
  • update the contest ranking faster once an action has been completed
  • let you configure/filter which objects to be displayed in the gamification widget, for each: contests, leaderboards, badges
  • let you configure default objects in the gamification widget, so that you can still choose from all the contests/leaderboards but you select which one to be shown in the widget by default

This is a quick brainstorm, but I’m sure more can be found.
