Question

Options for Displaying Sequential Learning Plans

We use Docebo for internal company learning, and up until now have only had sales content. We are working on opening up our platform company wide and will start having all our required onboarding and training content here.

We want to provide different content for different employees (such as sales, managers, etc), but there will also be LPs all employees will be required to complete. We have been looking into channels and catalogs. However, we have run into a few roadblocks with this.

We need our content to be sequential, so we currently have enrollment rules setup with groups for our Learning Plans (we currently have around 11). But once we open to more than sales content, we want to be able to filter the Learning Plans down to only show specific content. Since all our content is currently sales, we use learning plan widgets to show the progress of LPs, but the display will eventually contain our new non-sales content we release.

We are struggling with finding a way to utilize channels or catalogs for this (or any other display option).

Channels will only display the LPs a user is enrolled in, but there is no way of a user knowing their progress since the LPs don’t have a status on them (new, in progress, complete).

Catalogs will show all LPs, but the user has no way of knowing which is supposed to be locked for them or which they have completed.

We really want to keep our locked LP program since a lot of our content will not make sense if a user skips around, so just labeling them and leaving them open isn’t a good option for us.

Has anyone been able to find a way display these LPs with a similar content concept as this?

Edit: We want to be able to display these LPs in a way that allows visibility based on content, but also visibility to revisit previously completed LPs or see which one is in-progress.

Any ideas of how to provide a good user experience with locked LPs that are filtered into separate content would be greatly appreciated!!

Hi @biancaa there are a few options you could use but what comes to mind first is to use Groups to assign the next sequence of learning instead of placing everything in catalogues. you might also look at breaking your LP’s down into like content and perhaps creating more, smaller LP’s for your users.

Hi @lrnlab - thank you for the reply!

We do currently have our content separated into multiple learning plans and plan to continue to organize our content that way. We also use enrollment rules to create the locked LP experience.

Our biggest hurdle right now is the best way to display these LPs. We have some LPs that will be required for everyone to take, but also some that are specific to departments. We want to be able to display the department specific LPs in a way that provides visibility to user about what content they have completed and are in progress of.

@biancaa you might need to target them by catalogs.

@biancaa you may put content for each department in a dedicated catalog (as suggested by @lrnlab), and then create dedicated custom pages to present it in the most relevant way.

We have dedicated pages for our CSM team, sellers, new hires, partners, etc. each pulling courses, plans, and other content form the right catalogs and channels.

If users are only enrolled in content relevant to them, you may also think about creating a custom “My Learning” page. We have a page with only user’s learning plans at the top, and then separate widgets for in-progress, subscribed (not started), and completed courses.

Hi @biancaa, we struggle with the same issues and use the same solution you do. Which is becoming complex with over 9 different job roles divided over 9 products groups etc. Hence I believe having an option to place LP's in a large LP or a visible sequence (Learning Path) would be a great solution to have. Not al users follow the same learning path, but currently is hard to setup this up in Docebo. I think this idea, would help you as well:
