Docebo Creator vs. SCORM: Let's Talk Content!

At this time I am strip finding some issues with the Docebo Creator tool. for instance, the options to set # of attempts and other options for assessment activities. Only way around it is to start by creating the assessment first which is counterintuitive. The other issue is with AI Coach simulations that see to be tracking as complete on launch perhaps, again that some options are missing when creating the simulations. Support have said they are aware of the first issue but have no eta as to when this will be solved. This limits the use of the tool for now.

A nice aspect of SCORM packages is that you can easily drop them into pretty much any LMS. That means if you decide to switch LMS platforms - you’re less likely to have to re-create content.

I am an ActivePresenter user in terms of authoring tool. I have much more creative control and more abilities than are offered by “native” tools. There is just so much I can’t do with native tools.

In many ways, though, it depends on what the expectation is for the end product.

​@monica stalio Hi, Monica. Articulate 360 is a good enterprise-level tool. For those who are new to content creation, their RISE platform is a great way to get started, leaving Storyline 360 for more advanced topics/designers.

We’ve been long-time users of Articulate 360 (mostly Rise as SCORM), and we’re not planning to move away from it yet. That said, we recently ran a proof of concept with Docebo Creator (since it comes included for us). The interest was driven by two things: a broader internal push to explore AI tools, and the fact that we have a growing number of non-L&D folks who need to create training content.

From a functional standpoint, Creator is still a long way from Rise. It’s not as flexible or polished, and one major limitation for us is that you can’t embed videos, something we rely on heavily. Where it did shine was in generating first drafts for informational or procedural content, especially when users uploaded existing documents. The AI content generation was rated “okay” to “good” by most testers, and it was especially effective at structuring chunks of content. That made it a helpful starting point for informational or procedural training with low to moderate interactivity. It doesn’t help with scenarios or high-interactivity trainings.

We’re not planning to move away from Articulate at this point. Creator just isn’t there yet in terms of features or customization. But we are keeping an eye on future updates from Docebo to see if they’ll close that gap.

For now, we see Creator as a good option for non-L&D users who need to get something off the ground quickly. It lowers the barrier to entry, and with some light guidance, people can produce usable content. We do require all AI-generated content to be reviewed and edited before publishing, which helps maintain quality.
