Badging Maintenance

Wondering how others handle this badging issue:

  1. Learner completes a learning plan and is issued a badge
  2. The ID team adds another course to that learning plan
  3. Learner takes that recently added course in the learning plan
  4. The Learner now receives the same badge all over again

Any ideas on how to handle badges in learning plans where new courses will be constantly added - so that learners don’t receive duplicate badges? Versioning maybe? Open to ideas.

Following to see what others say because this is not something that had occurred to me. Our LPs are largely static but recently we have had to make some additions/deletions and were alarmed when we saw previous completion dates for those LPs vanish off reports. Docebo’s helpdesk concluded this was expected behavior, but that in the user personal summary you can still see the original issued certificate, so technically we weren’t losing that training record. I hadn’t considered re-issued badges...we may need to check how many learners now have duped badges now due to LP updates. This isn’t an issue with courses and their badges because even if you change training material, the original completion is maintained, it’s just the percentage finished that changes. I wish LPs worked like this too! I feel like versioning your LP would be the only current solution, which would be a serious pain to implement and maintain. It’d be nice if in Badges there was an option to choose that would only allow a learner to earn a badge once. Might be an Idea that needs to be written up.

Agree, @JEntis ! We are constantly cleaning up duplicate badges and would love to have a setting on the badge record that could easily prevent this. It’s something I’ve talked to Docebo support about, but I’ll submit it as an Idea as well.

@jessica.lunan Thank you for doing that! Let me know when it’s posted and I’ll upvote it!

@mindyparker @JEntis here is the Idea submission (not sure if it needs to be ‘approved’ before it’s visible):

I have been using one badge for completing any course, so they will have lots of dups. There would be no limit on how many they collect. However, There is a badge for watching a “How To” video. Being able to set a limit as to how many times they can earn that badge would be really useful. This way a user who wants points doesn’t keep getting rewarded for watching it over and over again. I also Upvoted the idea.

@Cindy Moore Exactly! we have “generic course points” (no badge) for completing any course, so in that case, the duplicate makes sense. but for pretty much everything else, we’d love to prevent it. Thank you!
