Question

Catalogs

I was told you do not have to add catalogs for a course as long as you provide a link.

However, when i don’t add catalogs, and employees click the link they get the “ Access Denied” page and then i have to add the catalog.

Can someone please clarify if this is in internal issue or if i am doing something incorrectly?

Hi @JaideDinonno ,

The "Access Denied" message happens because standard Docebo URLs prioritize catalog visibility. If an employee is not yet enrolled and the course isn't in a catalog they have permission to see, the system blocks them.

However, you don't actually need to use catalogs if you generate a specific type of link during the course setup designed to bypass these restrictions.

Docebo has a dedicated Enrollment Links feature. Instead of copying the URL from your browser address bar, you can generate a specific self-enrollment link directly from the course properties.

To ensure this works perfectly and bypasses catalog restrictions:

  1. First, an admin needs to enable the global setting: Go to Advanced settings (gear icon) > Advanced options > Enrollment links and ensure Make enrollment links valid for all available content is checked.

  2. Once that is enabled, go into your course's management settings and copy the dedicated Enrollment Link provided by the system.

When you send this generated link, employees can click it and instantly access or enroll in the course, completely bypassing the need for the course to live in a visible catalog.

In organizations I've worked with, this is the exact approach we use when launching internal training via Slack, Teams, or email. It provides a frictionless, one-click access experience for the learner without forcing the admins to clutter up the main platform catalogs with hidden or restricted courses.

You can find the exact steps on where to generate this specific link in the Help Center: Managing enrollment links.

Hope this clears up the workflow for you!
