We would like to stop issuing certificates for a course. However, we want to keep the course available for learners, and we need the record of certificates for audit.

Any input on how i would achieve this? All i’ve read indicates that anything I do would remove the record from a user’s account.

Hi @Maz , if you have certificate on course level. Then it is important to keep the original course connected to the certification. But what you could do then is simply duplicate the course and make them both equivelant to each other. But only keeping the certification only connected to the old /original couse. You can even archive the enrollment on the old course if you want to be more hidden for historical reasons and kick out all users that didn't complete the old course at the time.

We keep a lot of courses in our system for historical & auditi reasons, only keeping in users with enrollment status ‘completed'. And we put these courses on expired so nobody can open the course or enroll into the course anymore.

Hope this provides you with a workaround for your question

We do something similar - we add (ARCHIVED) to the title and update our course code as well so we can keep track of course versions.

Hi Maz,

I dont have an answer (better than @Bart_at_Yamaha Motor ’s, thank you!) but I second the question - it is vital to be able to archive/freeze Certifications, especially if they are the type of Certifications that need to be renewed!

Hi, Thanks Bart_at_Yamaha Motor for this method.

I need to keep the certification history; I don’t need the course active (can be under maintenance).

However, how do we prevent users being notified via email to complete their certifications?

We use a sequence of ‘Certification has expired’ event notifications for all our certifications. As illustrated below, I don’t see a trigger to select some certifications and exclude this only (Note: for course notifications we can specify the courses we want to include).

No trigger filters to select certifications
