Has anyone used CSS to remove the global search bar from the top of their pages? If so, we’d love to hear your suggestions on how to do it.

This will hide it for you:

/* Hide the global search bar in the top header */
.app-layout-header-gs-engage-wrapper {
display: none !important;
}

Q for you - why? I’m just curious about the use case.

Thanks @gus! We will try this out.

@JeanetteMcVeigh  - We have custom-built catalog pages and prefer users to navigate through those rather than the Global Search. We also want to prevent users from discovering courses they aren’t intended to access.

Hi @Britney ,

Before hiding the Global Search bar with CSS, it is worth reconsidering how your content visibility is architected. Global Search is one of the most intuitive ways learners navigate an LMS—especially when returning to training they have already started or looking up specific training materials. Removing it takes away a core usability feature, and hiding .app-layout-header-gs-engage-wrapper via CSS is only a visual mask that can break during future theme or header updates.

By design, Docebo’s Global Search strictly respects user permissions and only returns content a learner is entitled to see. In organizations I've worked with, when learners discover restricted courses in Global Search, the root cause is almost always an overly permissive catalog or course-level visibility setting rather than the search bar itself.

You can lock down course discovery natively while keeping Global Search available for your learners using three built-in controls:

  • Disable the fallback generic catalog: Go to Navigation menu > Configuration (spanner icon) > Platform setup and tools > Advanced settings > Course catalog and uncheck Show the internal generic catalog if user is not assigned to any specific catalog. Then, under Navigation menu > Content and delivery > Catalogs, verify each catalog’s Visibility tab so it is assigned strictly to the relevant Groups or Branches (Activating and managing catalogs).

  • Adjust course-level catalog visibility: For courses that shouldn't be discoverable by non-enrolled users, go to Navigation menu > Content and delivery > Courses > [Course Name] > Properties > Advanced settings > Catalog options. Set Course visibility in catalogs to Show the course only to enrolled learners (or set Course self-enrollment to Self-enrollments are not available). Note that if a course stays visible in an assigned catalog with its policy set to Only admins can enroll learners, it will still appear in Global Search with a padlock icon (Using the platform's global search).

  • Restrict Global Search result tabs: If you want learners to use your custom catalog pages exclusively for browsing new training—while still keeping Global Search for their active training—go to Navigation menu > Configuration (spanner icon) > Platform setup and tools > Advanced settings > Global search. Uncheck Courses and learning plans and Lessons, leaving My enrollments checked (Managing the platform advanced settings). Deselecting a content area excludes it completely from search results, even under the All results tab.
