New course notification to USERS

Hi! New here :)

Trying to find notification regarding NEW COURSE which would be sent out to “USERS” in specific group or branch. I only find where it is sent to Power Users and Superadmins.

This would be informative regarding new course so user could register to it if interested.

Which notification should I choose?

Hi @Ieva Novika , welcome to the community!

You haven't missed anything—the New course notification event is strictly an administrative alert, which is why Power Users and Superadmins are the only available recipient roles. Because a newly created course is initially an empty shell before you upload training materials or assign it to a catalog, Docebo doesn't trigger automatic learner-facing alerts at the moment of course creation.

To notify specific Groups or Branches about a new course they can self-register for, you have a few solid options depending on how your platform is structured:

1. Use the built-in Newsletter tool (Best for targeted announcements) Instead of the Notifications app, use Docebo's native Newsletter feature, which is specifically designed for one-off broadcasts to targeted audiences:

  • Go to Admin Menu (gear icon) > Newsletter (under Settings / Automation).

  • In the Recipients section, click Add and use the tabs to select your specific Groups or Branches.

  • Choose your delivery method (Email, Notification bell, or both).

  • Draft your announcement and include the direct URL to the course in the catalog so users can click straight through to self-enroll.

2. Use the "New content in learning plan" notification (If you use Learning Plans) When I've deployed this for organizations that want a strictly automated alert without manual emails, we sometimes group elective courses into thematic Learning Plans. Unlike standalone courses, Learning Plans have a New content in learning plan notification event that can be sent directly to Users whenever a new course is added to the plan.

3. Highlight it visually on their Home Page To complement your communications, consider adding a Catalog widget (filtered to a "New Releases" catalog or sorted by newest) or a custom banner widget on the page assigned to that Branch or Group. That way, learners immediately see new self-registration opportunities whenever they log in.

4. Automate it with Docebo Connect (If you want zero-touch announcements)From what I've seen in enterprise environments running Docebo Connect, you can build an automated recipe triggered by the Course properties have been changed (course.updated) webhook event. Rather than firing when the course shell is first created, the recipe waits until the course status is switched to Published (and checks a Course Additional Field specifying the target Group or Branch). From there, Docebo Connect fetches the users in that Group/Branch via API and automatically sends a targeted email or Slack/Teams message with the direct catalog enrollment link.

You can read more about the exact recipient limits for each event in the Notification events and conditions documentation, see the steps for targeted broadcasts in Creating and sending newsletters, and explore webhook triggers in the Docebo Developer Portal.
