Closing the Companion Beta — and what comes next

When we opened this group, we asked a simple thing: tell us what's working and what isn't. You delivered.

Over the past months, your feedback shaped how Companion looks, behaves, and communicates with learners.

The bugs you caught, the friction you named, the edge cases we hadn't considered — all of it made the launch stronger than it would have been without you.

Genuinely, thank you.

What's changing with this group

We're not closing this community — we're opening it up.

This group is becoming our Companion Product Design Group, a space where we'll share roadmap updates early, walk through upcoming features before they ship, and keep asking for your input. If you were willing to give us feedback during beta, we'd love to keep that conversation going here.

What we're building next

Here's where we're focused for the rest of the quarter:

🔧 Public & Batch APIs Enable admins and IT teams to create Spaces and manage allow/block lists at scale — programmatically, without manual setup per user.

🎬 Course Player: PiP & Side Panel Mode Right now, certain websites force Companion to open the course player in a new tab because of Content Security Policy restrictions on the host site. This update removes that limitation entirely. Learners will be able to choose how they want to learn in-flow — Picture-in-Picture, a Side Panel, or a New Tab — based on their preference.

🗂️ Space Governance Controls More control for admins: list view, associations to groups and branches, richer metadata. Making Spaces easier to manage as they scale across your organisation.

📊 Analytics Dashboard Usage and engagement data for Companion — so admins can see what's happening, not just that it's installed.

🔍 Contextual Search Recommendations based on what the learner is looking at. Companion reading the page and surfacing relevant content in the moment.

More detail on each of these will come through this community as we get closer to release. If any of these spark questions or reactions, drop them in the comments — that's exactly what this space is for.

Thanks again for being part of the early journey.

The best part is still ahead.

----------------
Lastly, we’re looking for any Companion beta participants who’d be interested in sharing their experience and practical use cases with the broader community during an upcoming DU Live webinar.

It would be a casual conversation alongside a Docebo host — low lift, collaborative, and a great opportunity to showcase real-world impact.

If any of you are interested in participating please let me know.

Hey @Kristian Luke Jones it could just be me but i just ran into a scenario where i create a space to a specific Notion URL and the course opened in a new tab with the below call out. If im understanding your update correctly, this shouldn’t have happened? and where would users go to configure whether something plays Picture-in-Picture, Side Panel, or New Tab? I couldn’t easily find this…

Hey Mirza, that is is still current expected behaviour, the updates on the player will be coming out shortly to allow the user to decide which mode they want it to open in, with the default being set to PiP.

Might be a bit behind in sharing this, but since Companion only shows the main domain, our Extended Enterprise users are a bit confused when they see a totally different URL.

I know there has been some conversations about Companion and Extended Enterprise, but not sure where that is right now. @Kristian Luke Jones, do you have any updates or comments to share on this?

Hi @JeanetteMcVeigh we are starting to work on the full support for EE domains in Q3 so it can be seperately configured for each domain.

Right now though users can login to Companion using any EE domain path and it will show the configuration from the main domain.

So to avoid any confusion you could use a generic title in the configuration section of Companion to avoid this.

Thanks.

Hello @Kristian Luke Jones we develop software for the healthcare sector. This type of software can be complex because we have to adapt it to various regulatory requirements. In our testing, we’ve found that Companion can be a simple solution for supporting our customers, especially during the onboarding process. However, transitioning x employees to new software is complex. Forcing users at the same time to create an account in our Docebo LMS, install the browser plugin, and connect it to the LMS makes the process even more complex.

Is it possible to integrate the Companion into a software product and connect it to the LMS via an API? That would make it much easier to make the Companion available to our customers.

Thank you

Florian

Hi @fl.stein currently we do not have a version of Companion that you can directly integrate.

the best approach for that would be to implement our Headless Solution, leverage our Embedded Learning SDK widgets, which allows you to embed the course player and lists directly into your Page or build your own with APIs and Webhooks.

Thanks,
Kristian.
