Hi everyone 👋, my name is Daniele and I am the PM for Gamification. I’m excited to welcome you to this PDG!

💬 What is this PDG?

A place to share honest feedback, ideas, and goals — early, before designs are locked in — so you can help shape where Docebo's Gamification goes next.

🏆 Why this group exists

Today, Badges, Leaderboards, and Rewards look outdated, can be hard to use, and don't feel smoothly integrated into the rest of the learning experience. We want to improve that, and we need your input to do it right.

🤝 How this will work

We'll be inviting you to join surveys, polls and occasionally deeper research. We’ll also share regular updates, early designs and ideas. In return, we're hoping for your real-life experiences using Gamification – what’s working and what is annoying – and your honest feedback, critical ones included.

🚀 What the first thing I can do here?

We’d love for you to introduce yourself and let us know what you are most looking forward to in being part of this PDG. Additionally, if you are interested in submitting an idea, please ensure you select Gamified Learning as the Product Area.

We’re so glad to have you here and we look forward to partnering with you to enhance gamification in Docebo!

Looking forward to seeing where Gamification is going. We’ve tried to leverage it for a global employee program and the leaderboard just wasn’t able to do what we needed.

Hi @rich.schmick and welcome! That's exactly the kind of feedback we're looking for. Could you tell me more about what went wrong with the leaderboard and what you'd have wanted Gamification to do instead? Thanks a lot!

We have not really explored Gamification in too much detail because only Super Admins can really do much of anything. We have more than 100 Power Users, & they all have dozens of users, at least. Since we cannot give them much autonomy, we cannot support it.

If we could give Power Users full access to Gamification, then we would likely use it throughout the organization.

The limitation of ten users on the leaderboard really didnt help engagement. This was our first gamification project and once 10 people completed all the content, the leaderboard never changed to show anyone else. Maybe if we had more challenges/contests it would have been different but in a company of 26000 people, a top 10 list doesn’t really do much. 8 of the users had the same point total which led to questions from other users with that amount of points asking why they werent shown in the Top10.

Thanks for sharing this perspective, @rich.schmick - Gamification effectiveness and engagement are on the table as well!

@NateC thanks for bringing this up! Now, Power Users can assign Badges - do you think we should extend Power Users’ permissions to cover more Badges abilities (creating a badge, etc...) or extend it to other Gamification features?

One of the drivers for us to sign-up with Docebo was having the capabilities of doing badges and leader boards natively. However, we are currently not using it. A few reasons are that the current set up looks outdate, it is not engaging or appealing at all, and the a dealbreaker for us, the navigation is not accessible, not even for keyboard users. All of these combined adds up for a poor user experience.

We are looking forward to any upcoming changes that can help us integrate badges and leaderboards in for our customers.

Thanks @bso and welcome to the PDG : ) I can see your point: we are aware of these current limitations!

I’m excited for this. I’ve been waiting for updates for a long time and asking my CSM about any potential upcoming updates every time we meet.

We’ve been using Gamification for the past ~6 years with real physical and digital rewards. We also have it linked to other initiatives in our company (outside of Docebo). It’s become a big part of our offer and employee benefits.

Welcome on board @abartunek 🤝🏼 Happy to hear you’re using Rewards as well. What was your experience with them like?

Welcome on board @abartunek 🤝🏼 Happy to hear you’re using Rewards as well. What was your experience with them like?

@daniele.corbetta pretty good but we’ve used quite a lot of workarounds here and there in general. Currently, many things are missing, limiting us, and generating more workload than it’s necessary. Most things boil down to having to exchange a lot of emails with our users.

I definitely like the Reward Sets and that we’re able to offer different rewards based on branches / groups.

When it comes to what’s missing, I could write an entire essay about it 😁 But main points are:

  • Outdated look & feel
  • No option to implement reward shop as a widget in a custom page
  • No option to set limitations (i.e. like a limit of 1 particular reward per user in total, or per year, e.g. only one Amazon Voucher for 50€ per year)
  • Current limit is you can request only one reward of the same type until it’s approved, so requesting multiple of the same is also troublesome
  • No option to for customizing reward choices i.e. if a user picks a t-shirt, they can’t select which size and color they’d like and we have to ask via email
  • No pop-ups, e.g. if a reward is physical, a pop-up asking for delivery address would be cool
  • Only 3 statuses (pending, approved, declined), all communication done via email if we want to exchange info

I’d be more than happy to share my perspective on every aspect of Gamification and what would be great to add. If it makes sense, I can make it more structured in a form of an excel table, with examples and reasons why certain pain points are problematic or what some new features could help with.

This is great to hear. I’ll echo what others have said about giving power users the ability to create and manage their own badges.

We also create a lot of badges without points to recognize the completion of a certification or designation. We had considered using leaderboards to showcase users who have earned multiple certifications, but without points, a leaderboard wasn’t feasible.

It would be interesting to have the ability to choose what the leaderboard reflects. For example, rather than ranking users based on points, it could display the number of badges they’ve earned.
