Certification Types

We are new to Docebo this year and have yet to use or configure Certifications. There are now a couple use cases, and we would like to set them up appropriately from the start. That being said, we do not want to “junk up” the system creating several unique certifications. We’re instead thinking of ways we can consolidate the number we create. Are there pros and cons to being more specific versus more general? We want to avoid any downstream impacts of having to rework our approach.

Potential Options include:

  1. General - Certification - 6 Months, Certification - 1 year, Certification - 2 years
  2. Slightly more specific - Safety Certification - 6 months, Compliance Certification - 6 months, Sales Certification - 6 months (and then repeat those for several expiration limits)
  3. Certifications for each specific, unique use case. (Which we do not prefer to do)

Any suggestions are very much appreciated.

Thanks,
Jaclyn

You will need to go with option 3.  When you complete a course or learning plan it will issue you a certification.  If you take a course associated with the same certification without using the “renew” function, nothing happens with the certification.

There is a revamp of the certification engine on the roadmap for later this year, but I don’t recall seeing anything that would support generic certifications.  It might be worth looking at that idea though for more details.

if you want to “consolidate” course completions that ultimately lead to a certification, you can create a “ghost” course (not in catalogues, not assigned, etc.) and create course equivalencies that would mark the “ghost” course as completed and only include that course in your certification. You can then create groups and enrolment rules to assign the ghost course once certain courses are completed. Hopefully this make sense.

Adding ,multiple courses to a certification, especially after it has been launched, can create issues when renewing.
