Channels - Limiting visibility at asset level?

Hi,

I have a channel that is visible to everyone. Ideally, I would like to upload a new asset to this channel, but only have the asset be visible to one particular group of users. The new asset is on the same topic as those in the channel, but it contains information that is only relevant for the specified group. As it’s not possible to set the visibility for each asset, does anyone have an idea for a possible workaround?

I know one option would be to create a new channel and restrict the visibility of the channel to that group of users, but this isn’t ideal as it may cause confusion due to all the assets being on the same overall topic.

Many thanks!

Not sure there is another way other than creating a new channel just for those assets. The users tat have access to multiple channels will see the Channel name, not just a bunch of assets from different channels all in one page.

Hi @lrnlab thank you for the reply, I had guessed that would be the only solution. Perhaps the option to set the visibility at asset level rather than channel level will become an option in the future!

Could this asset work as a course, @Nina

Visibility rules for courses and learning plans in channels

While being granted visibility over a channel is sufficient for a user to see any informal learning content (assets or playlists) included in it, the same does not apply to formal content (courses and learning plans):

  • Courses and learning plans in which a learner is already enrolled are always visible to them in channels.
  • Non-enrolled learning plans are never visible in channels
  • Non-enrolled courses can be made visible in channels if configured appropriately

(Emphasis added)

Hi @Ian, thank you for your reply. Adding the asset as a course works well, but we’re wanting to avoid it as we don’t want to force users to enrol into the course as well as taking them away from the channel, but thank you again for the suggestion! For the moment we will create a duplicate channel and just limit the visibility to the specific group.
