Is there a way to have a discussion thread inside of a course for learners?

you can use the Forum widget for discussions…

I don’t have the Forum option for some reason.

@rgraf You need to add the 'Forum' widget from the 'Add Course Widgets' section. Once added, it will appear on the training material page, allowing the admin to set it up for discussions, and it will also be visible on the course page for learners.
