Hi, Is there a way I can find out the test results based on the categories created in the question bank. Basically, I would like to analyze how the learners performed in each of the categories.

As far as I know the only way to get detailed question data by user is via the Reports tab on the course that contains the test. So in your case, if questions are in the question bank and shared across several tests, and since there is no question report or reporting option from the question bank, you probably need to export each report and then line them up to the categories you have in the question bank...definitely a big reporting gap here...
