I believe this is a bug has anyone else come across this?

Here’s our setup

Learning Plan 1
COURSE A
COURSE B (Prerequisite Course A)
COURSE C (Prerequisite Course B)

Learning Plan 2
COURSE B
COURSE C (Prerequisite Course B)

Learners who are only enrolled into Learning Plan 2 are getting “prerequisites not met for Course B. The prerequisites from Learning Path 1 are effecting Learning Plan 2. To make sure this is what was happening I removed the prereqs from Learning Plan 1 and this resolved it. I personally don’t think that the prereqs from one learning plan should affect the other. Has anyone else had this issue ?

Have never tried that but it sure does seem like a bug...seems like the completion of course B in another LP is only being recognized at one level and not triggering the release of course C in LP 2...anxious too see what support has to say...good catch!

@B0LT If you are using the same training material in course B and C, and those training materials are in the Central Repository, I’d recommend that you upload the training materials again with a slightly different name in the zip file.

I think what’s happening is that the properties of TM from Course B in LP1 is getting used because the TM is in the repository.  I have this issue with a couple of my LPs, and the solution I use is to just upload them a 2nd time (with a slightly different name, in a different course shell).

Thanks @KMallette it does seem to be related to the central repository. I couldn’t figure out exactly what the tie is because this issue occurs in a certain order of operations and conditions that I can’t seem to reproduce every time.

My workaround for now is to create different courses for the learning paths which in my scenario is not a problem however could be a problem for others.

Thanks for the input!

Interesting to see that discussion. I never thought of that being a bug, but a feature. We try not to use courses that are in learnig plans in any other form, not in other learnig pans and not stand alone. Because we also discovered the prerequisite definitions will have an impact on availability of teh courses outside of the learning plan. Our solution is to dupliacte the course shell with a slightly different name and use the shared training material form teh original course via the Central Repository.

Hope that makes sense?

Hello … so you’re saying that using the same training materials ISN’T impacting the ‘renamed’ course? In my experience reusing TM from the repository automatically completes the course if they took the SAME VERSION (of the TM) under a different name. To keep my completions separate, I’ve had to reload the TMs and give them a different name.

I thought that the learning plan prerequisites only affected the learning plan. IMO if the course itself has prerequisites the prerequisite should live on the course not within a learning plan (which is a feature I’ve seen discussed in upcoming updates)

For the TM material in the central repository there’s an option to either have Local Tracking or Global Tracking, If you use Local Tracking the TM status shouldn’t be carried over to other courses. But once you select it you can’t change it (I don’t think) and I don’t know how to tell which option you selected once you’ve selected it.

@B0LT Thank you for this reminder… I’ll dig deeper.

@B0LT Hi… just wanted to followup with you on the local vs. shared tracking.  It applies only to surveys in the Central Repository, not all TMs.
