OK, love that we can have multiple training materials organized into folders by language to support one course vs. multiple courses when you need to provide learning in multiple languages.
That is cool and a great step forward.
The newest update (currently in the sandbox as of March 2nd) provides us the ability to translate the title, short description and long description as well. Another great step forward. So, we are making progress.
But, yep, I said but, I need some guidance on this as I believe there is a gap in how this should / can work. Here is what I am noticing and looking for confirmation and feedback.
- We have one course, three languages set up
- English UK (default)
- Dutch
- French.
- Title and both descriptions have been provided in English UK, Dutch and French as well.
- Learner’s language is set to French in their profile, so they see French title and description information when browsing for the course in the system and even after enrolment. Check.
- The training materials they see are the default training materials (in this instance, the English UK training materials), not the training materials matching their language settings.
- The user must change the language to French to see French training material (this is upper right corner of the course page).
UGH.
I understand there is a default set on the language for training materials, but that should only be used IF the language in the learner’s profile is not one that is provided (in this instance Dutch or French).
It’s an odd thing to have my language settings set to French and see anything other than that when French training materials are available.
Did I miss a setting or is this functioning as designed and I need to add a new IDEA to suggest changing this.
I think the training material must change to reflect the language setting of the user if it exists and use the default if it does not.
So, if my language was set to German and I selected this same course, I would see the English UK title, short and long description & the English UK training materials by default.
Thoughts? Guidance? Thanks in advance.
