We have used the localization tool quite a bit to change the names of various components of our platform, including SCORM to eLearning Module, etc.
Will these go back to the original default (as they are doing in the preview mode)? Or will they carry over with the new course player?

I think the answer to this may be that it depends and you will need to test and/or confirm with support. There is a similar discussion in the thread below, but no firm conclusions.
agree I would be careful and fully test...am assuming that the preview mode is exact to what we’ll see and that the labels are properly aligned. We enabled it across our entire sandbox and I haven't seen any issues thus far.
Do you keep a log of your localization changes? If not, I strongly recommend this. I make this a regular practice and it’s come in handy many times.
