Recently learned that we will no longer receive support from our Marketing team, who up until now would send out emails to our customer base to alert them to major new courses. So I’m considering using the Newsletter feature in Docebo. However, we have over 60,000 users. I just reviewed the knowledge article for the newsletter feature and it says anything over 1,000 users is not advised as it could be marked as spam. I don’t understand why that would be, if we’re limiting the sending to blocks per hour, which is how Docebo does it.

Has anyone used it for large numbers successfully?

If not, can anyone recommend an easy to use, quick to learn third-party email service that isn’t too expensive? : (

Hi Mark, generally agree with the article. If you were to send through the system there is a couple of things to consider which might put a dampener on the whole process and point you in a different solution direction.

  1. Email sender limit - I do not know your set-up, but a lot of email services (if you are in the MS workspace) have sending limit, standard at 10k per 24 hours. It would be good to check with your team internally about limitations on this front.
  2. Traffic on site - sending 60k messages is no joke for most systems. Having experience with sending approx 2.5 the amount by mistake - the processing can take multiple days to deliver to all recipients.

If you do have an external option, communications team or a different team with the outreach, I would first explore that option.

Not too sure about the pricing strategy shift and your budget - in the past some of organizations I have worked for used Mailchimp for similar messages.

We tried to do the Newsletter via Docebo in the past (admittedly a long time ago) and did encounter some issues. We have around 12k employees and it had trouble with the number of emails this turned out to be.

I admit I have not tried it in a few years.

But our workaround is that we use an external tool called Publicate and create our HTML newsletter in there. It is super easy to use, and then we send it via email and feature it as a page on our LMS dashboard (link). We essentially use the WYSIWYG feature on a page and paste the HTML code that Publicate creates for it. It’s as easy as a couple of clicks and the newsletter is made into a nice looking page that we advertise on our main user dashboard each month.
