Question

One user, more than one manager and notifications

Hello,

This is probably a silly question, but if a person had two roles, and two managers, but then leaves one of the roles, how do I stop that manager (of the now vacant role) receiving training notifications please?

Thanks in advance.

Hello Lydia!

Not a silly question at all—matrix structures with multiple managers come up quite often.

Before tweaking your actual notification setup, have you looked at how the user's manager associations are mapped in their profile? You actually have two options to handle this without building anything complex:

Option 1: Remove the manager via Manager Types (Recommended) Docebo allows you to set up to 10 different "Manager Types" (e.g., Direct Manager, Functional Manager). If the user is assigned to both managers under different types, the cleanest fix is to go into User Management, edit the user, navigate to the Manager information section, and simply delete the manager for the role they left. Once that working association is broken, the old manager automatically stops receiving notifications for that user.

Option 2: Restrict via Notification Trigger Filters If you must keep the manager tied to the user profile for reporting or historical reasons, you can control the routing directly in the Notifications app. Edit the specific notification, go to the Triggers and filters tab, and restrict the notification to the specific Branch or Group tied to the user's current active role.

In organizations I've worked with, the pattern that holds up best long-term is the first option—keeping the user profile associations strictly aligned with active roles to prevent manager notification fatigue.

You can check the documentation for the specific settings here:

Hello Moshe, thank you so much for this. I didn’t realise there was a place I needed to remove managers from. Option 1 seems to have worked for what I need.

Thank you again :)
