Hi everyone! I got a SCORM file from a vendor (NINJIO) and the video content is only about 6 minutes or less with a single knowledge check question at the end. However the file is 1.1GB! I have no idea why it is so big, but I can’t upload it and our Cybersecurity team needs it to be tracked. I did try to add the SCORM file to both the Central Repository and directly into the course, but neither allowed the file size.

Does anyone use NINJIO scorm files in their instance successfully or has a workaround for adding this larger file (or maybe compressing it)? Happy to try a creative solution but not sure where to start!

That’s really large for a course that short.  There’s a Docebo system limit of 1024mb for SCORM files, so there’s not much for workarounds.  Can your vendor provide a version with lower quality assets?  You could I suppose screen record the video and then recreate the quiz, but that removes a lot of the benefits of having a SCORM file.

I believe the technical solutions like compression or file splitting won't be effective for a 1GB SCORM package. The file size indicates it likely contains high-quality media content that won't compress significantly without compromising the learning experience.

I'd recommend going back to the supplier. They should be able to provide either a lighter version or suggest alternative methods.

Thank you both @mzirnhelt and @hugoshimron ! I was able to get a smaller (lower quality) file from the provider. I appreciate it!

Sounds like the video quality was set to maximum resolution like 4K which is overkill for an LMS platform. The vendor could reduce that to just HD quality without sacrificing playback quality. Also scorm 1.2 will typically be a smaller zip file than say scorm 2004 or xAPI. Another thing to check nowadays is to disable automatic translations in the authoring tool if not needed. That can also add unnecessary clutter and bloated file size. Lastly, it sounds like you must be just slight over 1GB because 1024mb=1 GB.

We’re encountering a similar issue with another provider. We can influence the course package size by enabling fewer or more languages; however, in exceptional cases it would be very useful to have a temporary allowance to exceed the standard file size limit.
