As Superadmins, do we have a possibility to see which users are currently logged on to the platform - i.e. without going the long way through audit trail?

you mean those that are actively in the system at a point in time?

You can search for users who last accessed the system but that only tells you whether they logged in.

Thanks @lrnlab, that’s exactly what I feared and found so far. I wanted to make sure that I hadn't overlooked anything.
